A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Hennage Fynch Esquire:

To let their Lordships know, that the Knights, Citizens, and Burgesses of the House of Commons, taking serious Consideration of the great Revolutions of Affairs, and the great Mercy in giving His Majesty a happy and safe Arrival, have thought it their Duty to present an humble Petition, to keep a solemn Day of Thanksgiving for the same; wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence. (Here enter it.)

29th of May, to be an Annual Thanksgiving-day.

ORDERED, That His Majesty be moved, "That He would be pleased, that an Act may be passed, for the Keeping of the 29th Day of May as a Holy-day and Thanksgiving-day, in Commemoration of His Majesty's happy Return into this Kingdom, and the Day of His Majesty's Nativity."

ORDERED, That the Earl of Manchester, Speaker, do present this Day the Petition to His Majesty, for His Pleasure therein.

The Earl of Berks acquainted this House, "That he was commanded by His Majesty, to signify His Desire to this House, that those Lords who have been created by Patent by His late Majesty at Oxford do sit in this House as Peers."

And the Earl of Berks was appointed by the House to attend His Majesty, and acquaint Him, that Matters of Honour do belong to His Majesty; and this House doth acquiesce in His Majesty's Pleasure.

Order against it vacated.

Petition for a Proclamation for a Thanksgiving, for the King's Restoration.

"To the King's most Excellent Majesty. Humbly shew unto our Sovereign Lord,

The Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled,

That such is the inestimable Blessing of Your Majesty's Restitution to Your Royal Throne, which at once hath put a Period to the Calamities of Three Kingdoms, and to all the Sorrows and Sufferings of Your Royal Person and Family, that we cannot but account it as an Entrance into that State of Joy and Happiness, which obligeth all Your Subjects to render an everlasting Tribute of Praise and Thanksgiving to Almighty God, for these Glorious Mercies which He hath vouchsafed to His afflicted People.

"And to the End that some solemn Time may be set apart for the public Performance of this Duty, and that all Your Majesty's Subjects in England and Wales, and the Town of Barwicke upon Tweede, who equally share in the Joys of this Deliverance, may be united in these Devotions which are offered for it;

"We humbly therefore beseech Your Majesty, that Your Majesty will be pleased, by Your Royal Proclamation, to set apart some such Day, for a public Thanksgiving throughout all these Your Majesty's Dominions, as to Your Majesty's great Wisdom shall seem meet."

Adjourn.

House adjourned till 9a cras.

Hitherto examined by us,
