The Earl of Bridgwater reported from the Committee, the Bill for making the Rivers of Stoure and Salwerp navigable, as fit to pass, with some Additions and Alterations; which are offered to the Consideration of the House.
L. Grey excused.
ORDERED, That the Absence of the Lord Grey is excused.
Message from H. C. with Bills.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Shawe and others; who brought up Two Bills, passed their House, wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence:
1. "An Act for enabling Sir Anthony Browne to sell Lands, for Payment of Debts."
2. "An Act enabling John Harbin Esquire, to settle and dispose of several Manors, Messuages, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, with the Appurtenances, in the County of Som'sett and Dorsett, therein mentioned, for Payment of Debts, and to make Provision for his Younger Children."
Masters and Owners of Ships, concerning the Ballast Office.
Upon reading the Petition of the Masters and Owners of Shipping, trading to and from several Ports in this Kingdom; complaining of "an Oppression concerning Ballast:"
It is ORDERED, That the said Petition and Contents thereof are specially recommended to the Committee for Petitions, to be expedited as soon as possibly may be; and the Committee are empowered to send for such Parties and Witnesses in this Cause as they think fit; and that the Counsel of his Royal Highness have Notice, that they attend the Lords Committees, when this Business shall come before their Lordships.
L. Crumwell versus Browne, for attaching Money.
Upon Complaint made this Day, and an Affidavit in Writing of Nicholas Turke, produced to the House; shewing, "That John Browne, a Serjeant belonging to Woodstreet Compter, hath attached the Sum of One Hundred and Fifty Pounds of the Monies belonging to the Lord Crumwell, being a Breach of the Privilege of Parliament:"
It is ORDERED, That the said John Browne shall be summoned, by virtue hereof, to appear forthwith before this House, to shew Cause why he should not restore the said Sum of One Hundred and Fifty Pounds, upon Demand, unto his Lordship or his Assigns.
L. Bruce, &c. versus Robinson.
Upon Complaint, "That one Leonard Robinson, upon Pretence of a Defect by him and others discovered in the Titles of the Estate of the Lord Bruce, Lord Darcy, Earl of Monmouth, and others, hath, about a Month since, entered upon the Lands of some of the said Persons, and forbid their Tenants paying them any more Rents:"
Which being a Breach of the Privilege of Parliament, it is ORDERED, That the Examination of this Business is hereby referred to the Committee of Privileges; and to send for Parties and Witnesses as they shall see Cause; and to report their Opinions hereof to this House.
Bill to vacate Sir Edward Powel's Fines.
Upon hearing of Counsel at this Bar, concerning a Bill depending before the Lords in Parliament, for making void of Fines levied by Sir Edward Powell and Dame Mary his Wife:
It is ORDERED, That the Counsel shall be further heard, at this Bar, on Saturday the Two and Twentieth of this Instant June; and that Mr. Warberton (if he be in a travelling Condition, and able to come to London) is then to appear before the Lords, at the said Hearing; at which Time all Parties, with their Counsel and Witnesses, are to attend accordingly.
E. of Oxon's Petition.
It is ORDERED, by the Lords in Parliament assembled, That the Petition of the Earl of Oxford, concerning the Great Chamberlain's Place of England, shall be read, and taken into Consideration, on Tuesday the 25th of June Instant.
