PRAYERS, by Dr. Hodges.

Order to prevent Riots and Disturbances in the Fens.

Upon reading the Petition of William Earl of Bedford, Participants, and Adventurers for draining the Great Level of the Fens; shewing, "That the said Level having been drained, at the Petitioners Charge, for the Recompence of Ninety and Five Thousand Acres; and that, by an Act in the last Parliament, Possession of the said Ninety and Five Thousand Acres is settled and quieted as the same then was, until the 29th of May Instant, within which Time it was conceived another Act of Parliament would have passed, for a perpetual Settlement of that Business; which being not effected, and the Time near expiring, some Attempts have been lately made, by cutting of Banks, to endanger the drowning of great Part of the said Level; and it is conceived that further Attempts will be made after the said 29th of May Instant, if it be not timely prevented; which is endeavoured to be done, by presenting a Bill to the Commons House of Parliament, which is now in Agitation there:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords in Parliament assembled, That all unlawful Forces, Riots, and Assemblies, within the said Level and Parts adjacent, and the cutting of any Banks, Sasses, Sluices, or other Works, made for draining of the said Level and Preservation of the same, are hereby straitly forbidden; and that the quiet Possession of the said Great Level of the Fens, and the Works for the draining of the same, be continued in the Possessions of the said Earl of Bedford, Participants and Adventurers, and their Assigns, as now they are, until the Parliament shall take further Order therein, or an Eviction be had by due Course of Law: Provided nevertheless, That nothing in this Order shall be any ways prejudicial to the King's Title, nor to any claiming from His Majesty; but that the King may enjoy His Rights. And hereof all Mayors, Sheriffs, Bailiffs, Constables, and other His Majesty's Officers, are to take Notice, for the keeping of the Peace, and quieting of the Possession of the Premises as aforesaid. And lastly, that, this Order being published in the several Parish Churches and Chapels in and about the said Level, all Persons are to take Notice, and yield their Obedience hereunto, as they will answer the Contrary at their Perils.

Powers to the Committee for Petitions.

ORDERED, by the Lords in Parliament assembled, That the Lords Committees for Petitions shall hereby have Power to receive and consider of Petitions, and make Report to this House, and to reject such as are not fit and proper for the Cognizance of this House; and also shall have Power to send for Parties and Witnesses, as they shall see Cause.

Sir Simon Fanshaw versus Impey.

Upon reading the Petition of Sir Symon Fanshawe Knight, this Day in the House, complaining of "a Decree in the Exchequer, gained by Thomas Impey against him:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords in Parliament assembled, That the Cause shall be re-heard, at this Bar, on Thursday, which will be on the Thirtieth Day of this Instant May; and that the Parties concerned are to have timely Notice, and may have Copies of the Petition in the Interim; who are to attend, with their Counsel, at the Time and Place aforesaid.

E. of Dorset's Bill.

The Lord Holles reported from the Committee, the Bill for settling the Manors of Knole, &c. upon the Earl of Dorsett, as fit to pass, with some small Amendments, which are offered to the Consideration of the House.

The said Amendments were read Twice, and approved of; and the House ordered the said Bill, with the Amendments, (fn. 1) to be engrossed.

Hatfield Level Bill.

ORDERED, That the Bill for draining of Hatfeild Levell shall be read the First Time on Wednesday Morning next.
