Batailhey's Ordinance.

The Ordinance for naturalizing Joseph Batailhey and his Children, Merchant, was read this Day the Second Time, and Agreed to; and ordered to be sent to the House of Commons, for their Concurrence.

Additional Ordinance for employing the Poor.

This Day an additional Ordinance for setting the Poor on Work in London, was brought in, and read the First Time.

Message from the H. C. with Orders for calling Serjeants.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Wm. Lewis Knight; who brought up these Particulars, wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence:

1. A Vote that Wm. Powell Esquire be called to be a Serjeant at Law. (Here enter it.)

Agreed to.

2. An Order for the Commissioners of the Great Seal to issue out Writs, for calling Mr. Parker, Mr. Eltonhead, Mr. Bernard, and Mr. Nicholas, to be Serjeants at Law. (Here enter it.)

Agreed to.

The Answer returned was:

That this House agrees to the Two Particulars now brought up.

Inhabitants within the Lines, Petition to be considered for their Losses.

Upon reading the Petition of divers Inhabitants within the late Lines of Communication, that, out of their good Affections, have disbursed the greatest Part of their Estates for the Defence of the Parliament in these Troubles, desiring some Course may be taken for their Satisfaction:

The Title of the Petition is to be altered.

Col. Mydhope and Foster.

Upon reading the Petition of Colonel James Mydhope; shewing, "That one Foster, an Inn-keeper in Westm. hath caused the Bailiff of Westm. to attach his Horse, worth Sixty Pounds, for a Debt of Eight Pounds:"

It is Ordered, That the Bailiff of Westm. upon Colonel Mydhope's Assignation to Foster (fn. 1) of so much Money, to be paid him out of the First Monies of his Arrears, shall deliver him his Horse; and that the said Colonel Mydhope shall have the Protection of this House, to free his Person from Arrests, until he receive a considerable Sum of his Arrears.

Scots Prisoners for the Plantations.

The House received an Account this Day, "That the Scotch Prisoners in the Two Ships mentioned in Colonel Mountgomerie's Petition were shipped for the Foreign Plantations, by Order of a Committee that are authorized for the same by Order of the House of Commons; and that the said Persons are all willing to go, and the Persons that shipped have cloathed them, and provided all Necessaries for them."

Hereupon it is Ordered, That the Restraint of this House is hereby taken off from the Ships, that so they may go to Sea with the said Prisoners.

Committee of Accompts for Leicester.

Upon reading the Petition of the Committee for Accompts for the County of Leycester:

It is referred to the Committee of Indemnity, to state the Business, and make Certificate thereof to this House.

Vernon and Cudworth.

Upon hearing the Counsel of Vernon Plaintiff, complaining of an irregular Decree in Chancery, at the Suit of Cudworth; and also the Counsel of Cudworth, who demurred to the said Petition:

And the Question being put, "Whether Mr. Cudworth shall put in a further Answer or not?"

The Votes were even.

Worseley's Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of Worseley is referred to Mr. Justice Bacon and Mr. Justice Roll, to consider of some fit Way to give Relief to the said Worseley, and to report the same to this House; and the other Party concerned to have Notice.

Serjeants to be called.

"Resolved, upon the Question, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That Wm. Powell Esquire be called to be a Serjeant at Law.

"Be it Ordered and Ordained, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That the Commissioners of the Great Seal do forthwith issue Writs, under the Great Seal, in usual Form, to call Wm. Powell, John Clerke, John Eltonhead, Robert Nicholas, John Parker, and Robert Bernard, Esquires, to be Serjeants at Law, according to the Votes of both Houses passed in that Behalf."
