The manor called Lytelhalle, viz. 100a. land, 7a. meadow and 40s. rent, which came into the king’s hand after the death of Walter de Pateshull by reason of the minority of the said Thomas, his son and heir. The said Walter held all the aforesaid tenements of the heir of Thomas Bardolf by service of a knight’s fee.
He held nothing of other lords in the county. Elizabeth, aged 30 years, and Joan, aged 24 years, sisters of the said Thomas, are his heirs. |

A messuage, 2 tofts, 4 bovates of land, 14a. meadow and a windmill held of the king in chief as of the honour of Holdernesse by service of keeping two of the king’s falcons at the manor of Cleton in Holdernesse during such time as the king stays there, receiving of the king for such custody 3s. a day. Bounwyk. Two tofts and 2 bovates of land held of the king in chief as of the same honour by service of a hundred and eightieth part of a knight’s fee. Of these lands &c. two parts are in the king’s hand and the third part was delivered to Joan late the wife of the said Edmund, who survives, to hold in dower by writ of the king to Nicholas Gower, late escheator within the liberty of Holdernesse. Skipseburgh. A toft, with two parts of a bovate of land in Drynghowe, held of the king by service of rendering 12d. yearly, which were delivered to the said Joan, mother of the said Isabel, as her next friend (propinquiori), by the king’s writ to the aforesaid Nicholas, for her use in keeping the said heir. Beford. A toft held of John de Gouxhull by knight’s service; 2 tofts and 4 1/2 bovates of land held of the prior of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of 12d. yearly. Drynghowe. Two tofts, 5 1/2 bovates of land and 7a. meadow held of William de Greystok by fealty and by service of 18d. yearly. Skipseburgh. A toft held of the prior of Brydlyngton by service of 2d. yearly; a toft held of Robert de la Twyer by service of 3s. 4d. yearly. Drynghowe. Wyveton and Sutheskirlaghe. Two carucate and three bovates of land in Wyveton and 2 1/2 carucates of land in Southeskirlaghe held in service of the king in chief as of the same honour by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee and doing suit at the same wapentake. The abbot of Thornton and the prioress of Swyne held the two carucates and three bovates in frank almoin and divers free tenants hold the 2 1/2 carucates by the foreign service. He died on 31 August last. John his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir. |

He died on Friday after Whitsunday last. The jury know not who is his heir in blood, but Thomas de Wauton, son and heir of Eleanor de Stokes, sister of the aforesaid Margaret, aged 30 years and more, is heir of all the aforesaid lands &c. |

The premises were taken into the king’s hand by reason of the forfeiture of Ingram de Merk, son and heir of Robert and Jacomina, an adherent of Philip de Valesio, an enemy of the king, and granted by the king to the said John Brocas in fee simple.
Stebyngge and Wodham Ferrers. The manors held for her life of the gift of Hugh de Calk and William Garyng, chaplains, to Henry, sometime her husband now long dead, and the said Isabel and the heirs of their bodies, of the earl of Lancaster, as of the honour of Tottebery, services not known. Neuport. The said Isabel held the manor and town, by what title the jury know not. After her death they were taken into the king’s hand and their tenants attorned to the king, and being in the king’s seisin Thomas Revely and John Ravene and others unknown entered the said manor and town in the name of Edward, prince of Wales, and caused the tenants to attorn to him, and ordered the issues to be levied to his use, so that the writ attached to this inquisition cannot be executed, so far as concerns the said manor and town. She died on St. James’s day last. Heir as above. |

Benhale. The manor (extent given), including a hall with chapel and grange, a park, turbary, two coney warrens, 7s. rent called ward of Eye (warda de Eya), 30s. rent from foreign leets pro parte prioris Eliensis, 13s. 4d. from the market (foro) of Kelton and Benhal, and foreign rents of 1,260 herrings, capons, geese &c., purchased by the said Guy and Eleanor from John Claroun, knight, to hold to them and the heirs of Guy. They held the said manor of John de Eltham, late earl of Cornwall, as of the honour of Eye, by service of a knight’s fee. Guy was an alien born and died without heir, so that the manor, after Eleanor’s death, escheated to the earl and his heirs. The earl died without heir of his body and the honour descended to the present king as his brother and heir. The king afterwards granted the honour, including the reversion of the manor, to Sir Robert de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, and the heirs male of his body.
The said Eleanor died on the morrow of Easter last. She held nothing else in the county. |

Westminster. A messuage within the close of the palace of Westminster held of the king in chief by service of keeping the said palace, receiving of the king by the hands of the sheriff of London 6d. a day and also receiving when the king was within the close of the said palace, for each day he stayed, in bread, wine, ale, kitchen dishes (fercul’ coquine) and candles, as one of the king’s servants, and on every departure of the king from the said palace the said keeper shall have whatever is left in the said palace of fuel, litter in the chambers and hay in the stables, and, when the king shall cause the houses within the close of the said palace to be repaired, the said keeper shall have the old timber, the loppings (coperones) of the new timber, the old shingles (cendulas) and the ropes (funes) collected within the said palace. Also, the said keeper shall have from every merchant holding a stall (stallum) or box (stalellum) within the hall of the said palace 8d. yearly, and from every merchant not having a stall and bringing merchandise 4d. yearly. The said messuage, with the profit of the said custody, is worth 10l. yearly. He had also four tenants without the gate of the said palace, each rendering 2s. yearly, and held his court of them every three weeks, whereof the pleas and perquisites are worth 6d. yearly. He held the said rent of the heirs of Alexander Commers, service not known. He also held a messuage there worth 12d. yearly.

The manor (extent given), including a wood within the chace of the earl of Lancaster, in which the lord shall not fell any trees except by livery of the said earl’s bailiffs, and six messuages with 5 cottages without tenants through the late pestilence, held by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee of the heir of Maud de Holand, tenant in chief, whose lands were in the king’s hand at the time of the said Robert’s death by reason of her death.
Ibestoke. A messuage, a carucate of land and ten marks rent held of the earl of Huntingdon by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee. Le Muythe. A messuage, a carucate of land and 40s. rent held of Joan, late the wife of William de Harecourt, by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 28 June last. Robert Burdet, his son, aged five years and more at Christmas last, is his heir. |
