Endorsed:—Let John de la Haye have the wardship (of the said lands?); and by a fine of 50l. the marriage of Richard, son and heir of the said Simon, and if the said heir shall die before he shall come to marriageable age, let the said John have the marriage of another of the king’s heirs, and so on until he shall have married one of them. Let Joan, late the wife of the said Simon, by a fine of 100s. which the said John made for her with the king, have licence to marry whom she will, but within the king’s fealty.

The said Robert acquired the same of Robert de Chokes who held it of the said John by the same service.
Watford. A messuage and 2 virgates of land (extent given), held by succession of inheritance of Eustace de Burneby by service of 1/10 knight’s fee, and 6d. yearly.

Little Weldon. A messuage and 1 carucate of land (extent given), including 24a. wood in the king’s forest of Rokyngham, held of the king in chief by service of keeping and feeding at his own charges 15 of the king’s coursing dogs (canes currentes) for forty days yearly in Lent.

Writ of plenius certiorari, on the petition of Adam son of Robert son of the said Ralph, to enquire whether the said Ralph was convicted of theft or not, and if not then who is his next heir, &c., 8 October, 10 Edward II.

Horton in Riblesdal. [14a.] meadow held in chief of the abbot of Jervaux by service of 1 1/2d. yearly.
The said Ralph Godard died in the king’s peace, not convicted of the theft of an ox of which he was indicted, [upon which the meadow was seized into the hand of the abbot of Jervaux as chief lord, and afterwards into the late king’s hand by reason of the statute of mortmain], or of any other felony, and the said meadow was not taken into the late king’s hand for any other causes than as aforesaid. The abbot of Jervaux though warned to be present at this inquisition, came not.
Adam son of Robert son of Ralph, kinsman of the said Adam (sic), aged 22 at the feast of the Purification last, is his next heir.

Writ of plenius certiorari on the complaint of Nicholas le Latymer that the escheator had ejected him from the manor of Sutton, and the hamlets of Potton, Holm and Stratton, which he entered upon after the death of the said Alice by virtue of a feoffment made by John de Kynardeseye, clerk, 14 March, 10 Edward II.

Memorandum. In the book of fees of the exchequer it is found that William de Warblyngton holds the manor of Shirefeld by serjeanty of Marshalcy in the king’s house. And afterwards came the said John into the chancery, 14 March, 10 [Edward II] and acknowledged that he holds the said manor by serjeanty of Marshalcy, carrying a wand in the king’s guesthouse (hospicio) when required.

43. ROGER DE MACCLESFIELD.
Writ to Edward earl of Chester the king’s son, or to his justice of Chester, on the complaint of Jordan de Macclesfeld, brother and heir of the said Roger, that the king’s bailiffs of the manor of Overton, co. Flint, had detained from him certain messuages, lands, &c. in Worthinbury, 16 July, 10 Edward II.
[FLINT.] Inq. Saturday after the Assumption of the Blessed Mary, 10 Edward II.
Worthenbury. The said Roger on 19 February, 2 Edward II, died seised of 6 messuages, 60a. land, and 6a. meadow, which are held of the king in chief by fealty, service of 2s. 9 1/2d. yearly, and doing suit at the king’s court of Overton, and work at the castle and the mill of the manor as other free tenants do. One Ivo de Sulton, the king’s bailiff of the said manor desired to have purchased the said lands to his own use, but being refused molested the said Roger in many ways, and after his death seized them into the king’s hand and fraudulently occupied them, whilst the said Jordan, ignorant of his death, was absent studying at Oxford, and has refused to restore them. Thus and for no other cause are they in the king’s hand.
Jordan his brother, is his next heir, and of full age.
Writ of plenius certiorari to enquire whether Thomas, father of the said Jordan, held his lands, &c. abovesaid, in Worthenbury at will by the grant of Lady Eleanor the king’s mother, who held the same by the grant of the king’s father, or otherwise, and whether the said Robert usurped the same or not, 25 October, 10 Edward II.
[FLINT.] Inq. Thursday after the Assumption [11?] Edward II (defective).
Worthenbury. Six messuages, and lands (as above) were granted by Lady Eleanor, late queen of England, who held the manor of Overton at the will of King Edward II, to Thomas de Macclisfeld, then steward [of the said manor?] for his services, to hold as she held them, and the said Thomas held them after the death [of the said queen] by the permission of Edward then prince of Wales and now king, until his death; after which the prince’s steward of the said manor delivered the said lands to Roger, son and heir of the said Thomas to hold at the will of the prince; and neither the said Thomas nor Roger had any other estate therein than as abovesaid.
Petition from Jordan de Macclisfeld to the king stating that his muniments were burned with his houses, &c. in Meilorseiseneik in the war of Madoc, and praying for a confirmation to himself of the late queen’s said grant. (French.)

Etone Meysy. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the earl of Gloucester in chief, by service of 8 knights’ fees for this and other manors in divers counties. The above manors are chief manors and not members of other manors, hundreds, or liberties, although Polton is within the hundred of Creckelade and Etone Meysy within the hundred of Hanteworth.
He died on Saturday after the day of All Saints last. Heir as above, aged 12 years and a quarter.

WILTS. Inq. Monday the feast of St. Mark, 10 Edward II.
Lutleton Paynel. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee, which service is assigned for the keeping of the castle of Devises for forty days at his own costs whenever there shall be war in those parts, and in time of peace it shall render 20s. yearly to the constable of the castle.
Knyhttone Paynel. The manor (extent given), held of Henry Heosee of Hertynges by service of a sparrow hawk or 2s. yearly.
He died on 1 April in the year aforesaid. John Paynel, his brother, aged 50 and more, is his next heir.

Ate Fure. The manor (extent given), held of Ralph le Kamays in chief by service of 4s. yearly.
Imhaghe by Putteworth. 10a. land held of Eva Dautry by service of a bolt (?) (petibuli) yearly.
Doneketone. A tenement with 26s. 8d. rent, held of the heirs of Henry de Percy by service of enclosing a perch of paling about the park of Petteworthe.
Hamtonet. The manor (extent given), held in chief of John de Sancto Johanne by service of 1/20 knight’s fee, and suit of court at Halfnakede; 46a. arable and 20s. rent, &c., held of the bishop of Exeter of the manor of Chudeham by service of 10s. yearly; and a water-mill held of William de Sancto Georgio by service of 1d. yearly.
Manewode precinct. 8a. land called Seyhenhes (?) held of William le Taverner, lord of Hunstede, by service of 1d. yearly.

Aulton. 60a. arable, held of the king’s ancient demesne of Aulton by service of rendering 9s. yearly to the farm of Aulton, and doing suit at the king’s court there.
West Worldham. A messuage, 40a. arable, 3a. meadow, pasture for 100 sheep, 8a. wood, and 13s. 8d. rent, which he used to hold of James de Molyns by service of 25s. yearly, but now it is held of the king by service of doing suit at his hundred of Haliburn only, which hundred is in the hand of Queen Margaret as dower, because the said William bought the said service of 25s. of the said James.
