Petition to the king and council by Roger de Englefeld, complaining that whereas William, son of Sir Laurence Bassett, held of him the manor of Tyhidi, co. Cornwall, by service of two parts of a knight’s fee, as may be seen by a fine levied in 25 Hen. III, between William de Englefeld his ancestor, whose heir he is, and Alan Basset grandfather of William Basset, whose heir he is, the king’s escheator has seized the manor into the king’s hand by reason of wardship by the nonage of William Basset, whereas the wardship of that manor pertains to the said Roger; and praying that the fine may be viewed and right done. (French, undated.)
Endorsed: Let the escheator be commanded to enquire if the earl of Cornwall had the wardship of William Basset &c.; and let the treasurer &c. of the exchequer be commanded to search the earl’s muniments whether anything was done after the said fine whereby the wardship ought to belong to the king &c. and let justice be done.

And the said William granted to the said Alan all his land in Tyhydy and all his other lands &c. in Cornwall of the inheritance of Geoffrey de Dunstanvill his kinsman, to hold to the said Alan and his heirs of the said William and his heirs for ever, doing two parts of the service of one knight’s fee, together with the reversion of all the lands &c. which [Isabel?] the wife of Alan de Dunstanvill held in dower in the same county of his gift, to hold by the service aforesaid; and he granted that he and his heirs should render to the said Alan Basset &c. 100s. yearly at Ippesden for the life of the said Isabel, and after her death be quit thereof; and he gave to the said Alan thirty marks.
