He died on 14 Dec. last. Thomas Grene, knight, his son and heir was aged 18 years and more on 10 Feb.

Kegworth, the manor with a market on Tuesdays, jointly with Mary his wife who survives him, by the grant of William Neweton, rector of Tugford, William Wenlok of Shropshire, John Cok, rector of Green’s Norton and Robert Aleyn of Northamptonshire, to them and the heirs of their bodies by a charter dated at Kegworth on 23 Oct. 1398, and shown to the jurors. It is held of the king of the honor of Chester, annual value £40.

762 PHILIPPA WIFE OF JOHN TIPTOT, KNIGHT
Writ, precipimus, for return of inquisition. 1 July 1417.
SOMERSET. Inquisition. Taunton. 8 July.
By a fine of 1385 [CP/25/1/200/30, no. 64] between Philippa, then wife of Robert Aissheton, knight, and Thomas Hawkyn, on one side, and John Langerych, Maud his wife, one sister and heir of Hugh Lorty, and John Ganter and Elizabeth his wife, the other sister, on the other, the manor of Pitney was granted to Philippa with the hundred and the advowson for the term of her life, with the remainder to John and Maud, John and Elizabeth and the heirs of Maud and Elizabeth. Philippa held, John and John died. Maud died without heirs of her body. The right therefore descended to Elizabeth. They are held of the king in chief, annual value £11.
Philippa died on 2 May last. Elizabeth now wife of John Andrewe is next heir of Maud, aged 40 years and more.
Whether she held more is unknown.

By a fine of 1416 [CP 25/1/291/63, no. 41] between Richard lord Grey of Codnor, now deceased, John son of Reynold Grey of Ruthin, knight, Walter Hungerford, knight, Thomas de Clynton, knight, now deceased, William Mountfort, esquire, John Ingepenne, Roger Hunte and John Warde, against John Tiptot and Philippa his wife, def. the manors of Woodham Mortimer and Howbridge, amongst others, were recognised as the right of John Warde and quitclaimed to John Grey and the others, and the heirs of John Warde. Both are held of the earl of March, services unknown, annual values, Woodham Mortimer 40s., Howbridge, £10.
Philippa died on 4 May last. Eleanor wife of Walter Lucy, knight, aged 30 years and more, Elizabeth and Joan, daughters of Philippa widow of Hugh Courteneye, knight, 5 and 4 years and more, and Margery wife of Thomas de Arundell, 20 and more, are her heirs.

He held 2 parts of the manor of Whatfield called ‘Tudenhammes’ in his demesne as of fee of the abbey of Bury St. Edmunds by knight service, annual value 20s.
He died on 15 Sept. 1415. Thomas, esquire, his brother and heir is aged 17 years and more.
Margery widow of John de Tudenham, knight, held in dower for life the manors of Bealings, Grundisburgh, Sutton, Newton by Ipswich, Kedington and ‘Capelles’ with reversion to Robert Tudenham, esquire, and his heirs. Margery died on 9 June 1416 and the reversion descended to Thomas.
Bealings and Grundisburgh are held of Robert lord Willoughby of his manor of Bradfield, service unknown, annual values 20 marks and £10.
Sutton is held of the earl of Suffolk, service unknown, annual value 100s.
Newton is held half of the king in chief by knight service and half of the earl Marshal by fealty and a rent of 4d. yearly, annual value £20.
Of whom Kedington and ‘Capelles’ are held is unknown, annual values £10 and 5 marks.
Nicholas de Wychyngham, esquire, has held the two parts of the manor of Whatfield since the death of Robert, and he, Henry Inglose and John Felys have occupied and taken the profits of Bealings and the other manors, title unknown.

He held 2 parts of the manor of Whatfield called ‘Tudenhammes’ in his demesne as of fee of the abbey of Bury St. Edmunds by knight service, annual value 20s.
He died on 15 Sept. 1415. Thomas his brother and heir is aged 17 years and more.
He also held in fee the reversion of the manors of Bealings, Grundisburgh, Sutton and Newton by Ipswich, the manor called Cotenhall and the tenement called ‘Capelles’ both of which Margery widow of John de Tudenham, knight, held in dower for life. She also held a 3rd part of the manor of Eriswell. She died on 9 June 1416 and the right to these manors descended to Thomas as brother and heir of Robert son of Robert.
The manors of Bealings and Grundisburgh are held of Lord Willoughby of his manor of Bradfield, service unknown, half the manor of Newton of the king in chief by knight service, the other half of the Earl Marshal by fealty and a yearly rent of 4d. The whole manor of Eriswell is held of the king in chief by the service of 2 knight’s fees. Of whom and by what service Cotenhall and ‘Capelles’ in Kedington are held is unknown. Annual values, Bealings 20 marks, Grundisburgh £10, Sutton 100s., Newton £20, Cotenhall in Kedington £10, ‘Capelles’ … and Eriswell the whole manor £15, the 3rd part 100s.
Nicholas de Wychyngham held the 2 parts of the manor of Whatfield from the death of Margery on 9 June 1416, and Nicholas de Wychyngham, Henry Iglose and John Felys held the reversions, as above, from the death of Margery, until 11 July 1417, title unknown. Then the king by letters patent [CPR 1413–22, p.205] granted the custody of the lands and tenements of Robert Tudenham to John Rodenhale, knight, and John Wodehouse, esquire, to hold from the death of Robert until the full age of the heir.

She held the manor of Bealings for life with the advowson, … and the manors of Grundisburgh, Sutton, Newton by Ipswich, Cottenham in Kedington and the tenement called ‘Capelles’ in Kedington by the grant of Nicholas de Basyngham, parson of Sutton, to John Tudenham, Margery his wife, and his heirs with reversion to Thomas son and heir of Robert Tudenham, son and heir of John, son of Margery. In Bealings there are: 1 hall with chambers, 1 grange, 1 stable, annual value nil … and 9 a. arable at 4d., 10 a. pasture at … 3s.4d., 5 a. great wood, nil, £8 rent … payable at St. Andrew, Easter, Midsummer and Michaelmas by equal parts; 26s.4d. from various services of customary tenants, freemen and serfs … 4s. Annual value of the advowson of Bealings £10. It is held of [Lord Willoughby], of his manor of Bradfield, service unknown.
The manor of Grundisburgh comprises: the site … at 4d. the a., 240 a. arable at 4d., 16 a. pasture at 12d., 7 a. meadow at 3s.4d., 10 a. great wood … 40s. rent from various lands and tenements … at the above 4 terms by equal parts 40s. from various services of customary, free and unfree tenants … perquisites of court. Grundisburgh is held of Lord Willoughby as above, service unknown.
In the manor of Sutton are: the site with buildings, annual value nil … a. arable at 2d., 3 roods meadow 20d…. underwood … 3s.4d., this year nil … rents from various tenements in the vills of Sutton, Chattisham, Alderton, and Bromeswell in the said county. Sutton is held of the earl of Suffolk, service unknown … Newton by Ipswich … Coddenham, Gosbeck and Tuddenham at the above 4 terms 46s.8d. for various terms … held of the Earl Marshal by fealty … the manor called Cotenhall in Kedington … is held of the abbot of Bury St. Edmunds, service unknown. … the tenement called ‘Capelles’ in Kedington … there are 48 a. arable … Margery held for life a 3rd part of the manor of Eriswell and the advowson … a 3rd part of 300 a. at 2d., 1 a. meadow 3s.4d. … ‘Calnespitell’ 2 a., 2s.
The whole manor of Eriswell is held of the king in chief of the honor of Boulogne by the service of 2 knight’s fees.
She died on 9 June 1416. Thomas de Tudenham is heir of both Margery and John, aged 21 years and more. Nicholas Wychyngham, Henry Inglose and John Felioz have occupied the manors of Bealings, Grundisburgh, Sutton, Newton and Cottenhall in Kedington, and the manor called ‘Capelles’ in the same and 3rd part of the manor of Eriswell and taken the profits from her death until 16 Sept. following, title unknown. Then the king granted the custody to John Rodenhale, knight, and John Wodehouse, esquire, as above [no. 781].

Thomas, son and heir of Henry de la Ryvere, knight, held the manors of Tormarton and Acton Turville in his demesne as of fee and by his deed, dated at Tormarton on 31 Aug. 1400 and shown to the jurors, he granted them to Maurice Russell, knight, Nicholas Yve and Thomas Stanshawe, and their heirs and assigns. They held them in their demesne as of fee, and by their deed, dated at Dyrham on 27 Sept. 1400 and also shown, granted them to Thomas de la Ryvere, Isabel his wife and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to Thomas and his heirs. They had issue Maurice. Thomas died and John Drayton, knight, married Isabel. He died holding the manors in right of Isabel and with no other estate in them.
Tormarton is held of the lord of Yate as one knight’s fee, annual value £20; Acton Turville of the countess of Arundel as half a fee, annual value 100s.
Ralph Russell, knight, held the manor and advowson of Dyrham in his demesne as of fee and by licence of Edward III [CPR 1367–70, p.281] and by his deed, dated at Romsey on 19 Aug. 1369, granted it to Maurice his son and Isabel, Maurice’s wife, daughter of Edmund de Chelreye, and the heirs of their bodies with reversion to Ralph and his heirs and assigns. Maurice and Isabel had issue Margaret now wife of Gilbert Denys, knight, and Isabel late the wife of John Drayton. Maurice and Isabel died, and half the manor descended to each of their daughters. John Drayton died holding half in right of Isabel. The whole manor is held of the king in chief as one knight’s fee, annual value of the half £10.
He died on 3 Oct. last. Joan and Elizabeth are his daughters and heirs, aged 8 years and more and 5 years and more.

John Bukyngham, bishop of Lincoln, Thomas de Brantyngham, bishop of Exeter, William de Beauchamp, John Devereux, David Hanemere, now deceased, John de Drayton and William de Drayton, knights, William Rikhull, Henry Englissh, Stephen, vicar of Sonning, and John Forster acquired in fee a 3rd part of the manor of Kempston from Hugh Segrave, knight, Andrew de Burnham, William de Pountfreyt, clerk, and Walter de Chippenham without licence; and John Forster released and quitclaimed it to the others. The king, for £40 paid by John Drayton, pardoned the trespass by letters patent of 1387 [CPR 1385–9, pp.339–40], and licensed them to enfeoff Nicholas de Drayton, the father, Richard de Metford, Master Andrew Baret, William Brightwell and Master David Bradwell, clerks, and the heirs of Nicholas. Nicholas, Richard and Andrew are dead. William Brightwell and David Bradwell are still alive and hold the 3rd part of the king in chief by knight service, annual value 20 marks.

In Credlingcot he held in fee simple 1 toft and 20 a. which William Dey then occupied at will, held of the heir of Lord de Sancto Mauro, a minor in the king’s ward, by knight service of his manor of Castle Cary, annual value 19s.4d.; 2s. service rent from the tenants of a watermill there, held of John Balon in fee by knight service and 13s.4d. rent for 1 messuage, 30 a. arable and 5 a. meadow, by his grant to Robert Lacy, now deceased, and Juliana his wife for their lives with reversion to the heirs of John Balon.
In Dunkerton he held in his demesne as of fee to himself and his heirs 2 parts of a carucate and of 6 a. meadow and 20s. rent with the reversion of the 3rd part which Mary widow of Richard Mulbourne holds in dower; and also in fee tail 1 messuage, 1 carucate, 12 a. meadow, 20 a. wood, 40 a. pasture, 40s. rent and a 3rd part of a watermill.
Also in Credlingcot he held in fee tail 1 toft, 1 messuage, 80 a. arable, 6 a. meadow and a dovecot, by the grant of William Canynges and Richard Tailour, clerks, to him, Emmota his late wife and the heirs of their bodies.
