588. Emery (Almaricus) de Lucy.
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of John de Claveringg that the escheator had taken into the king's hand certain lands in Knappewell of which Robert son of Roger, his father, enfeoffed the said Emery for life only, 25 July, 13 Edw. I.
Cambridge. Inq. (undated.)
Knapwelle. The said Sir Robert enfeoffed Sir Emery of 10l. land in the said town, to him and the heirs of his body, with reversion to the said Robert and his heirs. The said Emery died without such heirs, and the steward of the said Robert seized that land into his lord's hand, and afterwards put in seisin one William de Pateslee who had a letter patent from the said Sir John to receive the same, who took homage &c. for 15 days, until the subescheator believing that the said Emery held something of the king in chief, took the said land into the king's hand. The land is held in chief of the heir of Sir Alan de la Zuch.

Springefeud. A moiety of a messuage, 120a. arable, 5a. meadow, 7a. pasture, 20a. wood, a third part of a watermill, a fishery, 27s. 3½d. rent of assize, works &c., held of the king in chief of the inheritance of Sibyl his wife by service of two parts of 1 knight's fee.
The said Sibyl had by him two daughters, Joan aged 16, and Alice aged 15, who are his next heirs.

Hydone. The court and garden, rents, pleas, a water-mill, 73a. arable in demesne, 8½a. meadow, 67a. wood, and pasture both on the hills and in the vales, &c. sum 4l. 10s. 9d.
Comba Stonton. The court and garden, rents, works, 30a. arable in demesne, 4a. meadow, and pasture, sum 21s. 6d.
Whether the above are held of the king in chief or not is unknown to the jury.

591. John, son and heir of Richard de Hispania, an idiot.
Writ to the justices of eyre in Essex to enquire whether the said John is an idiot or not, and what lands he has alienated, and to whom, 10 Oct. 13 Edw. I.
Essex. Inq. (undated and defective.)
The said John was from his birth and is an idiot, and not sufficient for the management of himself or his lands or affairs. He has alienated the following lands &c. to William de Montecaniso of Edwardeston and his heirs:—
Finchingefeud. A messuage, 140a. (?) land, 60a. wood, 6a. meadow, 4a. pasture, 10s. rent and a windmill, at the feast of All Saints, 2 Edw. I.
Willingehale Spayne. A messuage and 2 carucates land, at the same time. For which feoffments he received a horse, price 5 marks.
Pilton in the town of Bradewell. A messuage, 120a. land, pasture in the marsh for 200 sheep, ½a. meadow, 30s. rent, and the service of a villein worth 4s. yearly, at Christmas, 4 Edw. I., for which he received nothing, but was promised sustenance for life.
The said William holds all these lands and comes not.

Bloxsham. 100a. arable held of Lady Eleanor, the king's mother, in socage, and there are there 8 tenants, each holding 1 virgate in socage and rendering 6s. yearly, and a watermill.

(rent of assize), and 7 customers, held of Sir James de Crek by service of 1 knight's fee; 66a. arable, whereof 20a. are socage, and the remainder of knight's fee, and 5s. 4d. rent of assize, held of the earl Marshal, rendering 12s. 3d. yearly; and 12a. arable and 4s. 4d. from 4 tenants, held of the fee of the prior of St. Neots, rendering 2s. yearly; 30a. arable and 3s. rent of assize, held of the fee of William le Parker, rendering 2s. 6d.; 7a. land and 2a. meadow, held of (Robert) de Ubston, rendering 2s. 11d. yearly;
