Estlechesham. A messuage, 29s. rent, autumn works worth 5s., hen rent worth 7d., 120a. arable, a watermill, and a marsh, held of Sir William Bardolf in chief, rendering 5s. ½d. yearly; and a tenement held of the prior of Castelacre, rendering 3s. yearly; and he rendered 5d. to the prior of Westacre, and 2½ quarters of barley to Margery his sister for a piece of land.
Alan his son is his next heir, and under 2 years of age.
Writ to Richard de Holebrok, the king's steward, to deliver to Richard de Middelton, who shall render 40s. 8d. yearly at the exchequer, the wardship of the lands &c. according to the above extent if it appears to be faithfully made, reserving to the king the marriage of the heir and dower, 19 Jan. 6 Edw. I.

A third part of all the above was assigned to Isabel late the wife of the said Richard in dower, by the late sheriff.

Cridye. The manor was held by the said John of Henry de la Pomeray of the barony of Bery, and immediately after his death the said Henry as chief lord seised the manor into his own hand, and granted it to the said Nicholas until the lawful age of the heir. The said John held nothing by which the wardship of the heir &c. ought to belong to the king, but the subescheator, because he held the manor of Brawode of the barony of Hurberton, which was in the king's hand as escheat, ejected the said Nicholas.

Eton. The manor, held of the king in chief by service of 1 knight or two esquires for forty days at his own cost whenever and wherever the king shall be in the army, for all service and for his other lands held of the King. He held no other lands in Oxford or Berks.
Joan his daughter, whom Sir Benedict de Blackeham married during the life of the said William, aged 23 and more, is his next heir.

Thormerton and Suthrop. The manors, sometime held of the king in chief by the above service. These manors were given by the said William seven years ago to Benedict de Blakeham in free marriage with Joan his daughter and heir, who held them for almost two years until he demised them to the said William for life by indenture between them levied in the king's court, rendering a pair of gloves or 1d. for all service to the said Benedict.

A mansion, worth 1 mark yearly, held in free burgage of John Prat his brother and Adam the clerk, rendering a rose to the said John and 1d. to the said Adam yearly, and doing service to the borough; 4s. rent which he bought of Hugh son of John de Sutton, rendering a rose yearly; and 6s. 6d. of the gift of Adam his father, who bought the same of John son of Nicholas de Ordesale, rendering 1d. yearly; the whole held in free burgage and nothing of the king in chief.

Writ to Richard de Holebrok, the king's steward, to extend and deliver to Giles de Fenes, to whom the king has committed the same, the wardship of 40l. land of the lands late of the said John, who held of the king in chief, 29 Dec. 6 Edw. I.
Essex. Extent, Tuesday the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle, 6 Edw. I.
Est Mersey. A messuage, 2 old dovecots, 351a. arable in demesne, measured by the perch of 16½ feet, 21a. pasture, 51a. marsh, 1a. wood, 92a. wood called Cotselowode, which is in regard in the forest, a water mill, a weir in the sea, 7l. 19s. 1½d. rents, with cummin, gloves, works of customers and cottars &c. tenure unspecified. Of all which a third part is assigned to Mabel, late the wife of the said John in dower. There is no advowson or knight's fee.
Writ of plenius certiorari, upon the claim of John de Sancto Johanne for the wardship of the manor of Sheford, which William de Ripariis held of him by knight's service, 19 Jan. 6 Edw. 1.
[Berks.] Inq. Monday before Palm Sunday, 6 Edw. 1.
Seppeford. The said William held nothing of the king in chief in the manor of Seppeford, but held the manor of Mersi, co. Essex, of the king in chief, service unknown, nor do the jury know whether the king's predecessors ever had the wardship of Sepford manor.

Shifford. The said William held nothing of the king in Shifford by reason of the crown, but held a manor called Mereseye, co. Essex, of the barony of Hagenet or Boulogne, service unknown; and the king's predecessors never had the wardship of that manor.
John de Ripariis deceased was his son and heir, and William de Rypariis who now survives, is son and heir of the said John and aged 3. The aforesaid John and his predecessors held of Sir John de Sancto Johanne and his ancestors the manor of Colrigge, which is within the manor of Shifford by knight's service, and the wardship of his land and heir pertains to the said Sir John.
Writ to enquire whether John de Ripariis held any lands &c. of the king in chief as of the crown of England, or of any barony in the king's hand, 21 April, 6 Edw. 1.

John de Ripariis held nothing of the king in chief on the day he died in the county, neither of the crown nor of any barony which is the king's escheat; but held the following, viz.—
Colrugg. The manor, held of John de Sancto Johanne.
Foteswycke within the manor of Waneting. 115s. rent, held of Fulk son of Fulk son of Warin, which rent Fulk son of Warin, grandfather of Fulk that now is, gave to William de Ripariis, father of the said John, with Eleanor his daughter in free marriage; which manor and rent the king by his escheator caused to be seized into his own hand immediately after the death of the said John, and he delivered it to Sir Giles de Fenis. Neither the king nor any of his ancestors have ever had the wardship of these lands since the said John or his ancestors held them.
Berks. Inq. made at Hungerford, Thursday after the Assumption, 6 Edw. I.
Schifford. John de Ripariis held nothing of the king or crown in the county or elsewhere, as the jury understand, and the king's ancestors have never had the wardship of the manor of Schifford, but the said John held it of John de Sancto Johanne by knight's service, and died in his homage.

Culfo. A moiety of the manor held of Giles de Wachesham by service of ¼ knight's fee, which moiety fell into the king's hand through the wardship of Gerard son and heir of the said Giles (who held of the king in chief).
John son of John le Verdun, aged 21 on the day of St. Barnabas, 5 Edw. I., is next heir of this moiety.
