He died on 31 July last. Stephen Lescrop, knight, aged 30 years and more, is his son and heir.

Carleton in Keston by Ancastre. The manor (extent given), held of the duke of York, as of his soke of Grauntham, by service of a rent of a barbed arrow at Christmas. The extent includes 6d. rent of assize from the alien prior of Hogh.

Willesford and Ancastre. A croft and a bovate of land, held by Anne queen of England as of her honor of Eye, by service of suit to her court of Eye once a year.

He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned manor of Barnolby, messuages and rent in Grymesby, and land in Boleby.
He died seised of the under-mentioned manor of Castil Carleton in joint feoffment with Richard bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, Stephen Lescrop, knight, William de Pert and Joan his wife, as more fully appears by the king’s letters patent.
Barnolby. The manor, which extends into Barnolby, Waltham, Wathe, Houton, Bruggeslee and Askeby (extent given), held of the king in chief in socage, as of his soke of Waltham. The extent includes 2a. land in Waltham which are charged with … to be paid to the lord of the bishop of Salisbury’s soke of Waltham, and a court with a leet.
Grymesby. 4 messuages and 39s. 10d. and half a farthing of rent, held of … in chief in free burgage by service of 7s. 1d. rent to be paid yearly to the bailiffs of Grymesby.
Belesby. 1/2a. land, held of the bishop of Salisbury in socage, as of his socage of Waltham, by service of 2d. rent yearly.

LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Louth, Monday after the Nativity of St John the Baptist, 18 Richard II.
William Pert is dead; the others are still living. The manor is held of the king in chief by service of a rent of 2s. yearly. The said bishop, Henry Lescrop, Stephen Lescrop, William Pert and Joan had the following estate in the manor with the king’s licence, namely, to them and the heirs of the bodies of the said William and Joan, with remainder in default of such heirs to the heirs of the said Henry.

He held the under-mentioned manor etc. in his demesne as of fee.
Neyland. The manor, which is on the borders of Essex and Suffolk (extent given), held of Anne queen of England as of her manor of Causton by Norwich, in socage, by service of a rose yearly. The extent includes a park in Horkeslegh.
Colchester suburb. A water-mill, a messuage, a toft, 2a. meadow and 1/2a. alder-grove, whereof the mill, meadow and alder-grove are held of Walter lord Fitz Wauter, services not known, and the messuage and toft are parts of the burgage of Colchester and are held of the king in free burgage, as the burgesses of the borough hold.
Fifhyde. The manor, together with lands etc. in Fifhyde called Brettestenementz, purchased of old for the said manor and now pertaining thereto, and with the advowson of the church of Fifhyde. The manor and lands are held of the king, as of the honor of Boulogne, by service of one knight’s fee, except 3a. land of Brettestenementz which are held of the prior of Leyghes by service of 6d. yearly, 16a. land which are held of Richard Tomkyn by service of 4d. and 1/2 lb. cummin yearly, and 18a. land which are held by William de Wauton, knight, by service of 2d. yearly.

He held the under-mentioned manor in his demesne as of fee.
Neylond. A manor which is in the borders of Suffolk and Essex (extent given), held of Anne queen of England as of her manor of Causton by Norwich, by service of a rose yearly. The site of the manor is in the town of Stokeneylond, Suffolk. The extent includes a market called Neylond Market held every Tuesday, a free chantry, a court with a leet held once a year, and a messuage with curtilage which is not parcel of the manor but is held of John Rokwode, service not known.

NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at the castle of Newcastle upon Tyne, Saturday the feast of St Bartholomew, 16 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Whalton and Newham, moiety of the town of Halywell, and town of Little Benton in his demesne as of fee.
He also held the under-mentioned land in Great Benton and Killyngworth and died seised of the under-mentioned advowson.
Whalton and Newham. The manor (sic) (extent given), held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by homage and fealty and service of a twelfth part of a barony, as the jurors understand. The extent of the manor of Whalton includes a capital messuage and water-mill burnt and destroyed by the Scots; and the extent of the manor of Nedham includes a capital messuage similarly burnt and destroyed.
Halywell. A moiety of the town (extent given), held of the heirs of Henry de la Vale, knight, in socage by service of 26s. 8d. yearly. The extent includes the site of a manor, worth 6d. yearly for grazing.
Little Benton and Killyngworth. 140a. waste land, held of the baron of Graystok, as the jurors understand, services not known.
Great Benton. The advowson of a chantry, to present at every other turn.
He died on the eve of St Peter’s Chains last. Heir as above, aged 30 years and more.

He also held the under-mentioned messuage etc. in Southmuskham, garden in Carleton and cottage in Newerk.
Southmuskham. The manor with appurtenances in Carleton by Southmuskham (extent given), held of the archbishop of York, as of his manor of Suthwell, which is of the barony of Shirburn, by service of 2s. yearly and by as much service as pertains to a moiety of a knight’s fee. The extent includes a plot of pasture called Mikelpalet a fishery and court.

He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the services due to him from the under-mentioned manors of Oversadbery and Bretteby, Haldenby and Holynhale, and from the under-mentioned messuage etc. in Thribergh etc.
He held or was seised in his demesne as of fee of the remaining under-mentioned manors, advowsons, rents and lands etc.
Burton Constable. The manor (extent given), held of Anne queen of England as of the castle and honor of Richmond, by knight’s service. The extent includes a rent of a pair of gilt spurs, price 20d., to be paid from the manor of Stodehow at the feast of St Lawrence, rents of a barbed arrow, 1 lb. pepper, 1 lb. cummin and a pair of gloves, and a park and a wood called Croskogh.
Fyngall. The advowson of the church, held of the queen aforesaid, as of the castle aforesaid.
Hunton. The manor (extent given), held of Alexander, son and heir of Thomas de Mountforth, knight, by knight’s service.
Skotton. A waste messuage and a bovate of land, held of Elizabeth late the wife of John de Nevill, knight, service not known.

Coverham. The manor (extent given) and the advowson of the abbey of the Virgin Mary there, held of Ralph de Nevill, knight, by service of a barbed arrow. The extent includes a barbed arrow and 7l. 8s. 8d. of rent from tenants at will in Coverham, Aclethorp, Caldebergh and Melmorby. There is also a water-mill which is worth nothing by the year because its watercourse has been diverted by the overflowing of the river Cover.
Estwytton. 20l. yearly rent, held of the queen aforesaid, as of the castle aforesaid.
Westwytton. The advowson of the free chapel, similarly held.
Massham. The manor (extent given), held of Thomas de Moubray, earl marshal, by service of a barbed arrow yearly. The extent includes 4l. 6s. 1d. of rent from free tenants in Massham, Feghyrby, Heilagh, Sutton, Elyngton and Ellyngstryng, 51l. 8s. 1d. of rent from bondmen and tenants at will in the same places and Leghtounez, a coalmine and a court.
Nostrefeld. 2 carucates of land, held of Ralph de Nevill, knight, by knight’s service; and a carucate of land, held of Elizabeth late the wife of John de Marmyon, knight, by the like service.
Clifton. The manor (extent given), held by Ralph Nevill, knight, by knight’s service. A rent of assize of 43s. 4d. from a water-mill on the Ure. The mill has lain waste for 40 years, and so none of the said rent has been received.
Thyrn. Lands etc. worth 4l. 6s. 8d. yearly in the hands of tenants at will, held of the said Ralph de Nevill by knight’s service. There is 6d. rent from free tenants.
Watlous. The manor (extent given), and the advowson of the church, held of the said Ralph Nevill, knight, by knight’s service.
Thornton Watlous. 2 messuages and 2 bovates of land, in the hands of tenants at will rendering 12s. yearly, held of Ralph Nevill by knight’s service.
Burton upon Ure. A messuage and land let to tenants at will for 6s. yearly, held of Richard Lescrop, knight, service not known.
Scurueton. The advowson of the church, held of the queen aforesaid, as of the castle of Richmond, service not known.
Bernyngham. The manor (extent given) held of the prior of Gisburn, service not known. The extent includes a park.
Neusome in Broghton Light and Dalton Norrez. Lands etc. in the hands of tenants at will worth 105s. yearly, held of Henry Fitz Hugh, knight, and there is 12s. 10d. rent from free tenants.
Richmond. A tenement, held of the queen aforesaid, as of the castle aforesaid.
Over Sadbery by Gillyng in Richmundschyre and Bretteby in Alvertonshyre. The manors, which John Lescrop, knight, and Elizabeth his wife held of him, to them and the heirs of their bodies, by service of one knight’s fee and a rose to be paid yearly at Midsummer. He in turn held the manor of Over Sadbery of the queen aforesaid, as of the castle of Richmond, and the manor of Bretteby of Walter bishop of Durham, by knight’s service.
Ayndreby Furneux. The manor (extent given), and the advowson of the church, held of the queen aforesaid, as of the castle of Richmond, by knight’s service.
Upsale. The manor (extent given), and the advowson of the church of South Kylvyngton, held of Andrew Lutterel, knight, by knight’s service. The extent includes 26s. 11d. rent from free tenants in Upsale, Kyrkeby Undreknoll, Kylvyngton, Thornbergh and Silton, and 36l. rent from tenants at will in Upsale, Thornbergh, Kylvyngton, Silton, Caldecotez and Sedbergh, members of the said manor.
Thyrsk. A waste tenement, held of Thomas earl marshal, service not known.

The extent includes 14l. rent from free tenants in Great Driffeld, Little Driffeld, Kellyngthorp, Beswyk, Brygham and Kyllom, lands etc. worth 70s. yearly in the hands of tenants at will in Great Driffeld, Little Driffeld, Kyllom and Brigham, and the tolls of two fairs and a market in Little Driffeld worth 40s. yearly.
Faxflete. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief, service not known.
North Dalton. 10 marks yearly rent.

NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Newcastle upon Tyne castle, 4 July, 17 Richard II.
The under-mentioned manor, moiety and lands etc. came to the hand of Edward III by the death of John Wendout, tenant in chief, and by reason of the minority of Robert his son and heir who lately died while a minor in the king’s wardship, and they are still in the king’s hand. The said John Wendout died on Friday before St James, 41 Edward III.
Hibburn. The manor.
Neweton by the Sea. A moiety of the manor.
Yerdhill. 6 cottages, a water-mill, 3 husbandlands and 9a. land and meadow, worth nothing because totally devastated by frequent warlike incursions of the Scots in those parts.
All held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Yerdhill. 2 carucates and 45a. land and meadow, held of the barony of Werk in socage by service of a rose yearly at Midsummer.
Estdicheburn. 8 husbandlands, held of the lord de Beaumont in socage by service of a rose at Midsummer.
Alnewyk. A cottage, held of Henry de Percy, earl of Northumberland, by knight’s service.
Elyngton. A messuage and 18a. land, held of the lord de Welles in socage by service of 1 lb. pepper at Christmas.
The kinsmen and next heirs of the aforesaid Robert Wendout were Robert de Hibburn, son of Isabel, one of the sisters of the said John Wendout, aged 40 years; John Graham, son of Mary another sister of John Wendout, aged 50 years; Margery wife of Richard Wetewang, aged 48 years, and Elizabeth her sister, aged 36 years, daughters of Agnes third sister of John Wendout; Margaret late the wife of Thomas Sampson, aged 54 years, and Agnes her sister, aged 52 years, daughters of Christina fourth sister of John Wendout; Alice daughter of John Syward son of Alice Syward fifth sister of John Wendout, then aged 10 years; and Margery daughter of Robert de Lilburn son of Elizabeth sixth sister of John Wendout, then aged 12 years. Of these, John Graham assumed the habit of a religious order and was professed therein at the abbey of Roches on 4 May, 6 Richard II, Alan Graham, aged 40 years, being his brother and heir; Elizabeth sister of Margery wife of Richard Wetewang, died on 2 January, 7 Richard II, the said Margery being her next heirs; Alice daughter of John Syward lately died while a minor in the king’s wardship on 4 March, 8 Richard II, Christina wife of Richard de Lincoln, aged 30 years, and Joan Pacok, sister of the said Christina aged 24 years, being her next heir; and Margery daughter of Robert de Lilburn lately died while a minor in the king’s wardship on 6 May, 10 Richard II. Two-thirds of the above-mentioned manor, moiety and lands etc. as well as the reversion of a third part thereof, held for life in dower by Christina late the wife of the said John Wendout ought to descend to the said Robert de Hibburn, Alan Graham, Margery wife of Richard de Wetewang, Margaret late the wife of Thomas Sampson and Agnes her sister, Christina wife of Richard de Lincoln and Joan Pacok, her sister, as kinsfolk and heirs of the said Margery daughter of Robert de Lilburn, and also kinsfolk and heirs of the said Robert Wendout. They are all of full age. The said two-thirds of the said manor, moiety and lands came to the hands of Edward III by the death of John Wendout and by reason of the minority of Robert Wendout, and are now in the present king’s hand by reason of the minority of the said Margery daughter of Robert de Lilburn.

He held the under-mentioned land in Westokkenham in joint feoffment with Thomas Smert, chaplain, who is still living, by gift of John Elcoumbe [to him and the said Thomas] and his heirs.
