ESSEX. Inq. (indented) taken at Bumpstede Helyoun, Wednesday before St. Deins, 45 Edward III.
Bumpstede Helyoun and Bumpstede ad Turrim. A manor (extent given), held of the king in chief as parcel of the earldom of Oxford, service not known, and charged with 2s. yearly to Henry Helyoun, 9d. to John Dargentem, knight, 22d. to the bailiff of the king’s hundred of Huddelesford, 2d. to the prioress of Hethyngham, and 1d. to the heirs of John de Wauton, knight.

Fyngrith. The manor (extent given), held of the king hi chief by knight’s service.
ESSEX. Inq. (indented) taken at St. Osyth, Saturday before Michaelmas, 45 Edward III.
Bentleye. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service as parcel of the earldom of Oxford. The extent includes a park of 100a.
Rameseye. The manor (extent given), granted by John de Veer, late earl of Oxford, his father, to him and Maud his wife and the heirs of their bodies. It is held of [the lord] Fitz Wauter by service of 10s. every 24 weeks for ward of the castle called ‘Baynardescastel.’ Maud now holds it and claims to hold it by virtue of the above grant.
Wrabbenase. The manor (extent given), held as of the right and inheritance of Maud his wife, and charged with 10l. yearly to be paid to the abbot of St. Edmund. It is held of the said abbot by the service aforesaid.
The earl died on Thursday before St. Matthew, 45 Edward III. Robert de Veer, his son, aged 9 years on 16 January, 44 Edward III, is his heir.
ESSEX. Inq. (indented) taken at Great Canefeld, Wednesday after St. Luke, 45 Edward III.
Stanstede Mounfichet. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service. The extent includes a park of 80a. The manor is charged with 2s. to be paid yearly to the prior of St. Valéry. Robert Parker is park-keeper in fee by inheritance, taking for his office pasture for 5 cows, a mare and a foal in the park throughout the year, and fuel enough for the requirements (expensis) of his house.

Hengham ad Castrum. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service, and of no other lord. The extent includes a park of 200a.

Hengham Sibille. The manor (extent given), held of the earl marshal by knight’s service.
Bourhalle. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief as parcel of the earldom of Oxford.
Hydyngham Sibille and Vaux, co. Essex, and Preston, co. Suffolk. By his letters patent dated at Hydyngham ad Castrum on Sunday the feast of the Purification, 45 Edward III, he granted a yearly rent of 20l. from his said manors to Thomas Tuwe for life.
Hengham ad Castrum, Hengham Sibile, Bourhalle, Wachesherst, Gelham, Beauchamp, and Vaux. By his letters patent dated at Lavenham on Sunday the feast of the Purification, 45 Edward III, he granted to the same Thomas for life the keepership of the park and warren and all the outwoods and fisheries, as well in rivers (ripariis) as elsewhere, in the said towns. Thomas receives for the said bailiwick a quarter of wheat every eight weeks, 5s. yearly for his fee, a robe of the suit of the esquires of the earl’s household whenever the earl makes a general livery for his household servants, two cartloads of hay and a quarter of oats yearly out of the issues of the manor of Hengham ad Castrum for his horse, pasture for four cows, a mare and a foal, and pannage for four pigs yearly (annuales), in the park, all windfall wood in the park and the outwoods within the warren, and sufficient fuel within the park for his household.

HERTFORD. Inq. (indented) taken at Buntyngford, Thursday the feast of St. Denis, 45 Edward III.
Great Hormad. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief as parcel of the earldom of Oxford, service not known, except 50a. land which are held of the lord Fitz Wauter by service of 2s. 8d. yearly, and 4a. land which are held of John de Redeswell by service of 6d. yearly.
As he died in co. Essex, and not in co. Hertford, the jurors cannot be certain of the day of his death, nor yet as to his heir.
HERTFORD. Inq. (indented) taken at St. Albans, Saturday after St. Denis, 45 Edward III.
Gorhames. The manor of Westwyk so called in the hamlet of Westwyk in the town of Kyngesbery (extent given), held of the abbot of St. Albans by service of 6s. 6d. yearly and by suit every three weeks to the abbot’s hundred-court of Caysford. He held it for life, jointly with Maud his wife, by a fine levied in the king’s court.

Great Caumpes. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service. The extent includes 3 carucates of arable, each containing 180a., and a park and a parcel of wood called ‘le Hympihay.’ The earl granted the keepership of the park to William Wyngefeld for life, who receives therefor 6 1/2 quarters of wheat, 11 quarters and 3 bushels of oats, 3 cartloads of hay, and 10s. for shoes (calciament’). There is 8l. 12s. 3 1/4d. rent of assise there, of which the duke of Brittany shall receive 40s. yearly.
Great Abyton. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service. The extent includes 3 carucates of arable, each containing 180a.

BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Chesham, Monday the eve of SS. Simon and Jude, 45 Edward III.
Chesham. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service as parcel of the barony of Bulbek. Peter Perpount, Richard de Aston, and Richard Stoke, clerk, granted it to the earl and Maud his wife in fee tail. The demesne of the manor, with the meadow and pasture adjoining and a water-mill, is delivered at farm to Henry Smyht for 10 marks yearly.
In 11 Edward III the king by charter granted to Robert de Veer, late earl of Oxford, and his heirs and assigns, view of frankpledge of all the tenants in the town of Chesham, whether his own or of others, for a yearly rent of 33s. 4d. payable at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. This view is complete (unum grossum) in itself, and not parcel of the manor; but the earl and Maud took the profits thereof as parcel of the manor because of the said feoffment, whether with the king’s licence or not the jurors know not.
Calverton and Wytchirche. The advowsons of the churches, tenure not known.
Coueleye. A toft, 15a. land, 8a. meadow, 20s. rent, and 3a. great timber without underwood, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
