John Bouwode, aged 50 years and more, says that she was of full age, to wit 15 years, on the Nativity of the Blessed Mary last, having been born at Childehey and baptized in the church of Brodewyndesore in 24 Edward III; and he remembers this because on the day of the baptism he held a court at Brodewyndesore in the presence of Hugh Strode, aged 44 years, James Hournesbawe, aged 41 years, Roger Lopene, aged 49 years, Roger Rouche, aged 55 years, and Geoffrey Broun, aged 43 years, who, having been sworn, agree with John Bouwode in all particulars. So by the date of the court the age of the heir is known.
Peter Gust, aged 44 years, Nicholas Wike, aged 43 years, Thomas Bouchard, aged 48 years, and Thomas Elwell, aged 42 years, agree and say that on the day of the baptism they came to Brodewyndesore at the request of the steward of the earl of Devon to witness and bear record to a demise of land between the earl and Richard Childehey, father of the said Cecily. They know her age by the date of the writing.
William de Legh, aged 41 years, and John Broun, aged 43 years and more, agree and say that they were asked by Richard Childehey to a feast (conviviolum) on the day of the baptism, and he gave each of them a rod of alder at Childehey to witness and bear record to the age of the said Cecily.

Robert Gaunt of Barkeston, aged 40 years and more, and John Fox of Humby, aged 50 years and more, say that the said heir was 21 years of age on Saturday after SS. Philip and James last, having been born at Botheby by Billesfeld on 2 May, 1345, and baptized in the church of St. Andrew there; and this they know because they were present in the church at the time and saw Richard Pynzun, then parson of the church, and John de Cranwell, godfathers of the said heir, lifting him from the sacred font.
John Page of Reppesle, aged 60 years and more, and John de Barkeworth, aged 50 years and more, agree and say that at the time of the birth they were at Botheby about the carriage of their timber in the wood of Botheby, which they had bought of John Paynell, the heir’s father.
Edmund Kyrnell of Botheby, aged 40 years and more, Adam Forster of the same, aged 50 years and more, John Dryver of the same, aged 40 years and more, James Haket, aged 40 years and more, Robert son of Roger of the same, aged 44 years and more, William Telle of the same, aged 57 years and more, and William Bocher of the same, aged 53 years and more, agree and say that continuously since the birth until now they have dwelt in the town of Botheby and have often seen the note of the day and year of the birth written in the kalendar of the great white psalter of the church by Richard Pynzon, then parson, to wit the second of May in the aforesaid year; and moreover William Kyrnell of Botheby, brother of the said Edmund Kyrnell, is of the same age as the heir, and was born on the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross after his birth.
Geoffrey Kebet of Humby, aged 44 years and more, agrees and says that at the feast of St. John before the Latin Gate next after the birth of the heir he came from Byngham ‘in the Vale,’ where he had previously dwelt, to Humby by Botheby, and took a dwelling there and has lived there until now.

Simon and Jude, to wit, on 26 October, 19 Edward III; and this he knows because he had a son named Walter born and baptized in the said church in the same year, and he is now 21 years of age and more.
John Asshebrok, aged 46 years, agrees and says that he was at the time in the service of the heir’s father and was charged with (super) divers letters into the counties of Wilts, Stafford, Northampton and Leicester to divers of the father’s friends (complicibus et amicis) for joy (pre leticia) of the birth of the said heir.
Richard le Warde, aged 50 years, agrees and says that in the same year he acquired an acre of land from a neighbour about the feast of St. Nicholas the Bishop.
Robert le Smyth, aged 42 years, agrees and says that he was by reason of his minority in the wardship of the father of the said Robert Burdet, of whom he then held by homage, and it happened that his age was proved about the feast of St. Andrew next after the birth, and as he is now 42 years of age he knows that the heir is of full age.
John Balle, aged 44 years, agrees and says that about the feast of the Purification last 21 years ago he married Isabel his wife, who is still alive.
John Mokke, aged 46 years, agrees and says that he was with a certain priest ob causam adiscendi in the church aforesaid when the said Robert was baptized, so that, counting up the years spent in divers dwellings, he is sure that the heir is of full age (per quod computatis singulis annis hucusque per diversas moras suas constat sibi ad plenum quod plene etatis est).
Walter son of Richard, aged 48 years, agrees and says that in the same year, in the summer following, he was in a quarrel (contumelia) there where he was grievously wounded.
Richard Adam, aged 60 years, agrees and says that he was on pilgrimage to Santiago about the feast of St. Gregory the Pope after the birth, and suddenly fell sick with fever and so remained weak for a long time after.
William Hichebon, aged 45 years, agrees and says that his firstborn son died on the feast of St. Katharine after the birth.
John Lambard, aged 42 years, agrees and says that his mother was helping the mother of the said Robert at the time, and he, John, was then 21 years of age.
John de Kent, aged 50 years, agrees and says that he was serving a man in the county of Oxford, and on his return home he found his wife at church with Robert’s mother making offerings on the day of her churching, and because she was away on his arrival he beat her so that she feared for her life (mortem timuit).
Henry Russell, aged 52 years, agrees and says that his father was a collector of the king’s fifteenth in the town of Sekynton, and because he asked the heir’s father for the fifteenth at which he was assessed he was threatened in life and limbs so that he dared not approach his house; and so by his rolls of the fifteenth and their date he knows that the heir was of full age at the time above stated.

John atte Wyle, aged 50 years, says that the said heir was 23 years of age on Saturday the eve of All Saints last, having been born at Ewelme on Monday the feast of St. Michael, 17 Edward III, and baptized on the morrow in the church of All Saints there, and that John Grene, William Lecch and Alice Fifide lifted him from the sacred font; and this he knows because he had a firstborn son named William by his wife, who died in the same year, and his death was written in the missal of the church for a perpetual remembrance.
Henry Pangebourne, aged 60 years, agrees and says that at that time in the same year he had by his wife a son William, who is still alive and 23 years of age.
Thomas Crouk, aged 56 years, agrees and says that his mother, Juliana Fabyan, died in the same year, 17 Edward III, and her death is written in the missal of the same church.
John Beek, aged 60 years, agrees and says that on the day of the birth he went hunting with the heir’s father, and at a certain leap he broke his leg and has ever since walked lame.
Eustace Roser, aged 50 years, William Wayte, aged 56 years, Philip Grenefeld, aged 53 years, Walter Fairman, aged 54 years, William Motte, aged 50 years, Richard Smyth, aged 56 years, and Henry Houstwey, aged 56 years, agree and say that on the day of the birth they started (irripuerunt) with other neighbours of the countryside for Santiago, and the day on which they started is enrolled in the missal of the same church, and it is now 23 years ago.
William Runsyval (age not stated) agrees and says that Pernell, his daughter, died on the morrow of the day of the heir’s birth, and the day of her death was written in the psalter of the same church.
The escheator caused John de Mohun and Joan his wife to be warned by Richard Wylot and John atte Dich to be at Ewelme on 14 November, and Ralph Restwold and Patrick Everard, their attorneys, were there and said nothing.

John Mayster, aged 51 years, says that the said heir was 21 years of age on the feast of St. Stephen last, 21 (sic) Edward III, having been born at Estfarlegh and baptized in the church of St. Andrew there, and that William Apuldriffeld and John Coppyng, with Joan de Cobbeham of Rundale, lifted him from the sacred font; and this he knows because John his son was born on the feast of St. Mary Magdalene 21 years ago, after the birth of the said heir.
Walter Grige, aged 40 years and more, agrees and says that Henry Grige, his father, gave him and John his brother 2a. land in the parish of Beringdenne, and by the charter of feoffment and the date of the same, to wit, at Bedyngdenne on the day of St. Thomas the Martyr 21 years ago, next after the birth of the heir, he remembers the said birth.
John Rogger, aged 50 years, agrees and says that he acquired 1 1/2a. land in the parish of Maydestane by Estfarlegh in a place called ‘Lodlyngcrouche,’ and by the date of the charter of feoffment made at Maydestane on the morrow of the birth of the heir he remembers the said birth.
John Baber, aged 45 years, Richard Pattemell, aged 51 years, Thomas atte Halle, aged 43 years, and John Maryon, aged 43 years, agree and say that John Pattemell built a water-mill in Maydestane called ‘Pattemell’ by Estfarlegh in the year in which the heir was born, and that is 21 years ago.
Thomas Smyth, aged 43 years, agrees and says that John de Frenyngham, father of the said Ralph de Frenyngham, died nineteen years ago, and at that time John son of Ralph was 3 years old and more.
Ralph Coteler, aged 45 years and more, agrees and says that William his son became a monk at Rochester three years before the birth of the heir, now 28 (sic) years ago.
Thomas Bouutefloure, aged 41 years, and Thomas Jacop, aged 43 years, agree and say that together they built a chamber at Lyntton eight days after the birth of the heir.
John Fayhard, aged 45 years, agrees and says that he had a wife named Alice, who died 19 years ago, and her death is enrolled in the missal of Maydestane, and the heir was then two years old and more.

David Elyot, William Parchecorn and Margaret Parchecorn lifted him from the sacred font. This the witness knows because on the day of the birth he acquired certain tenements in Costyneston from Walter atte More, and so by the charter of feoffment thereof made bearing date at Costyneston, 2 August, 18 Edward III, he remembers.
John Wydelock, aged 40 years and more, agrees and says that he had a son named John who became a monk at the priory of Pembroke on the feast of St. James the Apostle next before the birth of David, in 18 Edward III; and it is so enrolled in a psalter at Costyneston.
John Castelmartyn, aged 40 years and more, agrees and says that Alice his mother departed this life on 4 August next after the birth of the heir.
Peter Perot, aged 60 years and more, agrees and says that he had a son Peter born on the morrow of St. Laurence next after the birth of the said heir, in 18 Edward III, and it is so enrolled in a missal in the church of Costyneston.
John Trewent, aged 38 years, John Scorlag, aged 50 years, William Benger, aged 48 years, and Walter Castel, aged 40 years and more, agree and say that there was a quarrel between them and Walter Malenfaunt, uncle of the heir, which was settled on 6 August after the birth of the heir, in 18 Edward III, and that was 21 years ago on 6 August last.
William White, aged 60 (?) years, William Br …., aged 54 years, William Parchecorne, aged 48 years, and Thomas Wysman, aged 46 years and more, agree and say that the church of Costyneston was interdicted or suspended, by reason of the shedding of blood in the same, from all divine celebrations therein except baptisms, at the time when the said heir was baptized, and was reconciled on the 7 August after his birth, 18 Edward III.
