TREASURER OF YORK

Coll. 9 Apr. 1538 (Reg. 28 f. 70v). Instal. 13 Apr. (AC 1504-43 f. 218v). Clyff surrendered treasurership and preb. of Wilton to king 26 May 1547 (D/C Lease Reg. 1543-87 f. 128r-v); conf. by abp. 14 June, and by dean and chapter 8 July (ibid. f. 128v). (fn. 1)

  • 1. Edward VI gr. it to the duke of Somerset 9 July 1547 (C.P.R. 1547-8 p. 190), but Somerset had sold it back to the king by 28 July (ibid. p. 119). Thomas Clutterbuck petitioned ineffectively for the treasurership ? June 1660 (Cal. S.P. Dom. 1660-1 p. 84). The office and dignity of Treasurer of York was revived in 1936, when it was given to one of the residentiary canons under the constitution and statutes promulgated by Order in Council of 28 May 1936 (Lond. Gaz. no. 34292).
