He was then gr. lic. to be absent from his benefice for life if necessary and was therefore probably unaware of the litigation over the archdcnry.   • 1. William de Testa was said by Le Neve-Hardy to have been archdcn. of St Asaph 1306. There has been confusion between the Latin form for St Asaph, 'Assavensis', and 'Aranensis', the Latin for Aran. Testa at this time held the archdcnry of Aran, in the ch. of St Bertrand de Comminges, situated in the Val d'Aran, now in Spain, but which was a member of the dioc. of Comminges until the French Revolution (Reg. of W. Greenfield, ed. W. Brown and A. H. Thompson (Surtees Soc., 1931-8) 1 22 n. 2).
  • 2. The ch. of Dyserth formed part of the endowment of the archdcnry (Valor IV 435; Thomas cc 400). The estate of Iorwerth ap Rhys was ratif. as 'parson' of Dyserth 30 Nov. 1391 (CPR. 1388-1392 p. 512) but he probably held the vicarage and not the rectory. John Moel was presented to the ch. of Dyserth 30 Oct. 1407 (CPR. 1405-1408 p. 366) and could possibly have been archdcn.
  • 3. There is no evidence that Dafydd Fychan ap Dafydd was archdcn. of St Asaph 1386 or that Griffin le Yonge was archdcn. in 1398, 1403 and 1406 as stated by Le Neve-Hardy.
  • 4. Dafydd Llwyd was possibly archdcn. 1461 as he was presented to the ch. of Dyserth 10 Aug. (CPR. 1461-1467 p. 27; see p. 43 n. 2) but it is not clear whether he was presented as rector or vicar.
