Acknowledgments

I should like to express my gratitude to Sir Goronwy Edwards and Professor R. R. Darlington who have watched over every stage of the revision of the Fasti and given me much encouragement and advice; also to Miss K. Major and Professor C. R. Cheney, who read through the draft. My thanks are also due to Dr. A. B. Emden who has given me information about the degrees of Cambridge graduates, to Miss M. Roper who solved some of my problems about the Chapter in the sixteenth century, and to Mrs. C. M. King who helped me to compile the index and bibliography. Finally I should like to thank the archivists at Lincoln: Mrs. J. Varley, Mrs. D. Owen, Miss M. Finch and Mr. M. Lloyd for their great kindness and patience with me during my long visits to Lincoln.

H. P. F. K.

Note. Dr. A. B. Emden's Biographical Register of the University of Oxford to 1500 has been followed for degrees. But some later medieval bishops' registers and chapter act books give the title of 'magister' to B.A.s. This anomalous title appears in this edition of the Fasti, when there is manuscript authority for it.
