Archdcn. of Richmond from before 1158 and had been succeeded by 18 Aug. 1184 (list 13); prob. preb. Bugthorpe before 1167 (list 21). Occ. as successor of Arnulf Sottovagina in preb. [? South] Newbald 1164 × 22 Nov. 1181, perhaps early in the period (YMF I no. 39 = EEA XX no. 134).

Occ. as preb., being gr. a messuage in Goodramgate 28 Sept. 1177 × 22 Nov. 1181 (EYC I no. 160 = EEA XX no. 135).

M. Simon of Apulia

Chanc. from before 3 June 1190, possibly by Michaelmas 1187 (list 4). Dean by end of 1193, conf. Jan. 1194 (list 2). Occ. as this preb. while dean, 1201 × 04 (YMF I no. 40), and prob. from before 1189 (ibid. II 61). Prob. held preb. until became bp. of Exeter (see case of 1219, Rolls of Justices, Yorks. no. 833). Bp. of Exeter, el. before 13 Apr. 1214, cons. 5 Oct.

M. Giles le Rous (Rufus)

Preb. of Lincoln by 1243; archdcn. of Northampton (Lincoln dioc.) from 17 June 1246 × 16 June 1247; d. 20 Nov. 1272 (1 Fasti III 32, 76). Occ. as archdcn. of Northampton and this preb., so 1246 × 72 (YMF I no. 41). Prob. to be identified with the man who occ. as [? vice-]archdcn. of E.R., in 1228 and in 1246 (list 11, note to Simon of Evesham).

Stephen of Sutton (fn. 189)

First occ. as can. 1268 (Reg. Giffard p. 88). Occ. as can. several times. Immediate predecessor of Peter of Savoy in this preb. (Reg. Romeyn I 393). Also preb. of Lincoln and archdcn. of Northampton; still alive 20 Sept. 1290 (1 Fasti III 32, 68). D. as this preb. by 6 Jan. 1291 (Reg. Romeyn I 393). Brother of Oliver of Sutton, bp. of Lincoln (1280-99) (Reg. Sutton III 85).

Peter of Savoy (fn. 190)

Abp.'s gr. of pension of £20 p.a. until a preb. available 13 May 1290 (Reg. Romeyn II 166). Abp.'s coll. to this preb. in succession to Stephen of Sutton, with mandate to dean and chapter to induct 6 Jan. 1291 (ibid. I 393). Also dean of Salisbury, prec. of Lincoln, treas. of Llandaff; prob. preb. of Hereford; dean of St Martin le Grand, London, and Bridgnorth (1 Fasti III 15, 77, 86, 102-3, IV 12, 76). Held this preb. until became abp. of Lyon by papal prov., cons. by 7 Aug. 1308 (Reg. Clem. V no. 2895; not in CPL). Not to be confused with Peter of Savoy, preb. Wistow (list 49).
