Berewicks in Bole and West Burton belonged to abp.'s manor of Laneham (Notts.) in 1086 (Notts. Domesday (Alecto edn., 1990) fo. 283).

Church of Bole belonged to preb. by 1212 (Book of Fees I 149). In c. 1295 preb. held land in Bole and West Burton (Extents pp. 31-4).

Valuation

1291 £16; vicarage £4 13s. 4d. (Taxatio p. 297a, b).

M. William of Laneham (fn. 140)

First occ. as this preb. 1212, or a little earlier (Book of Fees I 149). Held land in St Andrewgate, York (Chs. Vicars Choral no. 464; cf. nos. 534, 538-9, 543) and in Goodramgate (ibid. nos. 127-8). Archdcn. of Durham by 28 Jan. 1224 (1 Fasti II 38-9). Still this preb. 1230 (Curia Regis Rolls XIV 103), but had res. by Michaelmas 1231 (Bracton's Note Book, ed. F. W. Maitland (3 vols., Cambridge, 1887) II 478 no. 628). Transf. to preb. Fridaythorpe before 1240 (list 26).

M. Walter de Kirkham

Occ. as this preb. once only, 2 Dec. 1232 (CPR 1232-47 p. 3). Dean by 21 June 1244, until became bp. of Durham, el. 21 Apr. 1249, temps. 20 Oct., cons. 5 Dec. (list 2).

Gilbert of Salisbury

Subdean, abp.'s coll. 10 Feb. 1267; last occ. 13 Sept. 1281; his successor appd. 20 Dec. 1281 (list 6). Transf. from this preb. to preb. Knaresborough on abp.'s coll. 20 Dec. 1280 (Reg. Wickwane p. 5; list 31).
