Wistow and Cawood (W.R.): not named in Yorks. DB, but part of abp.'s soke of Sherburn in 1086 (cf. ibid. fo. 302v). Abp.'s land in Wistow and South Milford 1154 × 63 (EYC I no. 36 = EEA XX no. 33).

Prebs. of Fenton (list 25) and Wistow created by abp. out of former preb. of Sherburn, after 10 Nov. 1215, conf. by pope 31 Aug. 1218, this preb. consisting of churches of Wistow and Cawood, tithes in Monk Fryston, Hillam, Burton Salmon and Fairburn (Reg. Gray pp. 132-4 and n.).

Papal prov. of this preb. in succession to Percival of Lavagna, abp.'s mandate to induct 17 Aug. 1290 (Reg. Romeyn I 389). D. as this preb. by 17 Oct. 1312 (Reg. Greenfield I 84). Not to be confused with Peter of Savoy, preb. South Newbald (list 36), who became abp. of Lyon 1308 (see A. H. Thompson in Reg. Greenfield I 294).
