Preb. dispossessed of Weighton church prob. temp. Henry II (1154-89) (EYC X 14-15). Church gr. to Finchale priory (Ben., dependency of Durham) 1198 × 1200 (Reg. Gray p. 49 n.; Priory of Finchale [ed. J. Raine] (SS vi, 1837) p. 61). Claim to advowson by Robert de Ros and Peter Fitz Herbert 1211 (Pipe Roll 13 John (PRS new ser. xxviii, 1953) p. 29). Case heard and advowson adjudged to Finchale 1218-19 (Rolls of Justices, Yorks. no. 1151). Durham and Finchale priories committed Weighton church to ordination by abp. 29 May 1230, who reserved it 9 June to himself and cath., as having been unlawfully taken from cath. (Reg. Gray pp. 49 n., 35). Abp. restored it as preb. 13 Nov. 1230 (ibid. p. 49). Vicarage taxed 4 March 1254 (ibid. p. 118).
