Already can., holding a small preb., prob., a money preb., when gr. newly established preb. Thockrington by abp. 5 June 1224 (Reg. Gray p. 148). Papal subdcn. and chapl., papal disp. to hold Thockrington church with other benefices 9 June 1226 (CPL I 111 = Reg. Hon. III nos. 5985-6). res. church of Acomb c. 1227 (Cart. Treas. York no. 30). Difficulties over payment of 6m. due as non-resident, papal mandate 15 Dec. 1226 (Reg. Gray pp. 154-6, cal. CPL I 115 = Reg. Hon. III no. 6103); evidently out of England 22 Dec. 1226 (CPL I 114 = Reg. Hon. III no. 6117). Preb. of Lincoln, Salisbury and Chichester (1 Fasti III 131, IV 67, V 62). Absent from Salisbury, said to be at York, 9 Sept. 1228; last occ. as preb. of Salisbury 19 Oct. 1233; had been succeeded in preb. of Lincoln by 16 Feb. 1235 (ibid. IV 67, III 131, 138). Principal benefactor of Anglesey priory (Aug., Cambs.), to which he retired c. 1236 (Letters of Guala nos. 153-5 and notes). D. by 1258 (ibid. no. 156).

James son of Nicholas

D. as immediate predecessor of William de Percy in this preb. by 10 Nov. 1265 (CPR 1258-66 p. 500). Also preb. of Wells, vacant 10 Dec. 1265 (Registers of Walter Giffard and Henry Bowett, bishops of Bath and Wells, ed. T. S. Holmes (Somt Rec. Soc. xiii, 1899) p. 6).

William de Percy (fn. 204)

Royal coll. to this preb. in succession to James son of Nicholas, s.v., 10 Nov. 1265 (CPR 1258-66 p. 500). Unordained pluralist, his benefices ordered to be seized 1274/5 (Reg. Giffard p. 265). His preb. in defective state 19 Dec. 1281 (Reg. Wickwane p. 9). Occ. as can. several times, last 18 Oct. 1294 (CPR 1291-1301 p. 123). Res. by 12 Jan. 1296 (Reg. Romeyn II 28).

John de Warenne (fn. 205)

Abp.'s coll. to this preb. in succession to William de Percy, with mandate to install, 12 Jan. 1296 (Reg. Romeyn II 28). Still can. 13 Apr. 1330 (Chadwick, 'Notes' (as below, n. 205) p. 416).
