Churches of Henfield and Cowfold (W. Suss.). Henfield was bp.'s manor with church 1086 (DB I 16d; for its earlier history, see AS Chs. of Selsey no. 10 and note). Cowfold not in DB. See Inq. Non. p. 355a.

? Marcellus

First occ. as canon c. 1177 × c. 26 Apr. 1180 (Acta no. 68). (fn. 1) Also occ. 1192/3 and 1197/8 (ibid. nos. 84, 101) and c. 1190 × 1200 (HMC, Report on MSS in Various Collections IV (1907) 97). As 'Macellus', canon, he made a grant of the perpetual vicarage of Bolney, which belonged to his preb., perhaps this preb., 1186 × c. 17 March 1204 (Chart. Chichester no. 1069). (fn. 2) Perhaps to be identified with M. Marcillus, who occ. without title as companion of Maurice of Arundel, archdcn. of Gloucester, c. 1217 (Cart. Oseney, ed. H. E. Salter, IV (Oxford Historical Soc., xcvii) 227; cf. 1 Fasti II 108).

Chichester no. 709). Resigned this preb. c. 28 Dec. 1307 (CPL II 33; also 2 Fasti VII 28).
