Middleton (W. Suss.); manor of earl Roger 1086 (DB I 25b). First reference to preb. 1291.

Preb. said by Walcott to include lands in Arlington (E. Suss.) (Walcott, Statutes p. 148), but no evidence found to confirm this statement.

In 1535 preb. consisted of payments from Michelham priory and from the parson of Rye (Valuation 1535 p. 168); see also Inq. Non. p. 369a.
