Manor of Chisenbury (Wilts.) held by Nigel Medicus 1086, assessed at 8 hides (DB I 73b) (cf. prebs. Calne, Netheravon, lists 24, 43).
Preb. prob. in existence by c. 1150 (Psalter list), but not mentioned in conf. by Henry II 1158 (RSO I 203-6). Perhaps referred to before 1189 (Godfrey de Lucy, below). Preb. taken into royal hands during Interdict, valued c. 1210 (Interdict Docs. pp. 7-8, 16, 20, 27). Preb. consisted of estates and tithes etc. in Chisenbury and Chute, church of Easton (Hants, Winchester dioc.)(CRR IV no. 845), church of Winterbourne Dauntsey, Wilts. (IV/E.5/Prebend of Chisenbury & Chute/1, 3, 4).
