[? Ranulph son of Robert (fn. 3) preb. unident., list 65

Said in 15th-cent pedigree to have been 'archidiaconus Sarum' and subdcn. when succeeded to the Middleham fee on the honour of Richmond, 1194 x 1206, and to have been disp. by pope in order to inherit and marry (The Genealogist new ser. iii (1886) 32-3; cf. Early Yorks. Chs. V 303 and n. 4). This is possibly true, as his two elder brothers predeceased him without issue (Early Yorks. Chs. V 302). He acted as an itinerant justice 1226 and 1230 and d. by 1252 (ibid. p. 303 and Foss, Judges II 332).
