Land in Ratfyn (Wilts.), one hide, held by Hervey of Wilton of Edward of Salisbury 1086 (DB I 69b). One hide of land in Ratfyn given to cath. by Hervey of Wilton and conf. 'in prebendam' by Henry I 1107 × 35 (RSO I 202, cal. Regesta II no. 1972).

Preb. prob. in existence by c. 1150 (Psalter list). Preb. taken into royal hands during Interdict, valued c. 1210 (Interdict Docs. pp. 7, 16, 20).

Dcn.-preb.; cantoris side; term of residence c. 1270: Oct-Dec.

M. Thomas of Ebbesbourne

First certain occ. as can. 15 Aug. 1222 (Sar. Stats. p. 70, also pd. RSO II 18), but prob. to be identified with M. T- de Haselberg who occ. as can. 7 Jan. 1213/14 (Nova Const.). First occ. this preb. Oct. 1226 × Feb. 1227 (app. 1). Occ. frequently. Transf. to preb. Grantham Australis, adm. 20 Dec. 1226 × 19 Dec. 1227 (list 32).

M. Richard de Clifford

Prob. not yet can. when occ. 1262 (cart. De Vaux fos. 25r-26r). Occ. this preb. May-June 1284 (app. 2) and as can. 10 May 1288 (app. 3). Still can. 28 Sept. 1294 (CPR 1292-1301 p. 94). Also preb. of York by 1270 (York Minster Fasti II 48); precentor of Chichester 1271. (fn. 1) Had been succeeded at York by 29 Oct. 1295 (ibid.).

Stephen of Ramsbury

Not called can., occ. as beneficiary and executor of bp. Nicholas Longespee's will, dated 14 Feb. 1295/6 (EHR xv (1900) 525, 526). First occ. as can. before 2 Feb. 1297 (cart. De Vaux fo. 39r). Warden of De Vaux college, occ. from before 2 Feb. 1297 to 1303 (ibid. and see VCH Wilts. III 384). Res. this preb. by 11 Oct. 1305 (Reg. Gandavo II 660).
