Church of Leighton Buzzard (Beds., royal manor) belonged to bp. T.R.E. and 1086 (D.B. I 209b); conf. to cans. by pope 28 Apr. 1139 (R.A.L. I no. 249), and conf. as preb. by pope 6 Feb. 1146 (ibid. no. 252 p. 198) and 5 June 1163 (ibid. no. 255 p. 207). Vicarage of church and chapels ordained 10 Dec. 1277 (Rot. Gravesend p. 211).
Chapels of Leighton Buzzard: Billington, Eggington, and Stanbridge, first mentioned 10 Dec. 1277 (ibid.).

II no. 338(11), see app. 38). Last occ. 9 Sept. 1231 (Reg. Roff. pp. 386-7). Said in 1247 to have preceded John de Sancto Egidio as parson of church of Leighton, and to have held it in the time of kings Richard I and John (Beds. Eyre pp. 86-9, 104). Possibly the origin of 'Buzzard' in name of Leighton (J. Godber, History of Beds. ([Bedford,] 1969) p. 38).

Archdcn. of Oxford from between 17 June and 13 July 1240; last occ. after 17 June 1249, and had been succeeded before 16 June 1250 (list 11). Occ. as this preb. as archdcn., 1247 (Beds. Eyre p. 104, cf. ibid. pp. 86-9). Perhaps to be identified with John of Banbury, can. (below p. 130).
