Briscoe Portion

A BILL to impower Sir Courtney Poole and Sir John Drake Baronets, to make Payment of the Portion of Elizabeth Briscoe Widow, one of the Daughters of Sir John Drake Baronet, by Sale of the Manor of Lymington in the County of Somerset, or by granting Estates out of the same, or otherwise, was this Day read the First time.

Resolved, That this Bill be read the Second time To-morrow Morning.

Transpting Loyalis.

Ordered, That the Committee to which the Bill against Stealing of Children and Servants is committed, do also take into their Considerations what Persons (who have been taken in Arms, or otherwise seized, and taken into Custody, for their Service and Loyalty to his Majesty, or his Royal Father) have been transported into and enslaved in any Plantations, or Parts beyond the Seas; and to consider of some Means for their Enlargement, and being brought home to their own Country; and to send for, and examine such Persons as have been Instruments in their Transporting and Enslaving; and report the Matter to this House.

Bankrupts.

An ingrossed Bill, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act Declaratory concerning Bankrupts, was this Day read the Second time.

Resolved, That the said Bill be committed to Mr. Smith, Mr. Marvell, Mr. Vaughan, Colonel Birch, Mr. Reames, Lord Fanshaw, Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir Tho. Meres, Mr. Knight, Sir Edm. Peirse, Serjeant Charlton, Colonel Windham, Sir John Harrison, Mr. Chetwind, Sir Rich Braham, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Fane, Mr. Robinson, Sir Robert Holt. Mr. Crouch, Dr. Birkinhead, Lord Brereton, Sir Rich. Ford, Colonel Kirkby, Sir Jeoffrey Shackerley, Mr. Clarke, Sir Allen Brodrick, Lord Herbert, Mr. Clifford, Sir Geo. Ryve, Sir Cha. Harbord, Sir Tho. Irby, Sir John Rouse, Mr. Eyre, Mr. Culleford, Mr. Trelawney, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Morris, Lord Bruce, Sir Hen. Newton alias Puckering, Sir John Shaw, Sir Wm. Tirringham, Sir Allen Apsley, Mr. Wm. Mountague, and all the Gentlemen of the Long Robe: And all the Members that come to the said Committee are to have Voices thereat: And they are to consider of the Judgment against Sir John Wolstenholme; and to meet, in the Speaker's Chamber, To-morrow in the Afternoon at Two of the Clock: And to send for Persons, Papers, and Records.

Ordered, That the Amendments, sent from the Lords, to the Bill for enabling Mr. Milward to sell Lands, be read To-morrow Morning.

Ld. Widrington's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill, sent from the Lords, to enable William Lord Widdrington to sell some Lands for the paying his Brothers and Sisters Portions, and providing for his younger Children, was this Day read the First time.

Ordered, That this Bill be read the Second time on Monday next.

Brnesley's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill to enable Charles Barnesley and Gilbert his Son and Heir Apparent, to sell Lands to pay the Debts of the said Charles the Father, was this Day read the Third time.

Resolved, That the said Bill do pass: And that the Title shall be, An Act to enable Charles Barnesley, and Gilbert his Son and Heir Apparent, to sell Lands to pay the Debts of the said Charles the Father.

And Mr. Milward is to carry it up to the Lords.

Highways.

Ordered, That the Bill for repairing the Highways be re-committed to the same Committee which were appointed to peruse the Bill, and the several Amendments and Provisoes thereto; and to rank and place them in such Order, that they may cohere; and then the Bill to be new-writ: And they are to review the said Bill, so new-written, and to make any further Alterations and Amendments thereto, as they shall see cause; and report the same to this House.

Wye, &c. Navigation.

The Lord Bruce reports from the Committee to which the Bill for making navigable the Rivers Wye and Lugg in Herefordshire was committed, several Amendments to be made, and Provisoes to be added to the Bill: Which he read, with the Coherence, in the Bill; and after delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table: And the said Amendments and Provisoes being twice read; and the Words "Gloucester or Monmouth respectively" being, upon the Question, agreed to be inserted into one of the Provisoes after the Word "Hereford;" and being inserted accordingly; and the said Amendments and Provisoes being, upon the Second Reading, severally agreed to;

Resolved, That the said Bill, with the Amendments and Provisoes agreed to, be ingrossed.

Navigable Rivers.

Ordered, That the general Bill for making all Rivers navigable, be read To-morrow Morning.

Relief of Loyalists.

Resolved, upon the Question, That the House do now proceed upon the ingrossed Bill for Distribution of the Sixty thousand Pounds amongst the suffering Cavaliers, and for Rating of Offices for their further Supply.

And the said ingrossed Bill being read the Third time; and several Commissioners Names being added, and twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to;

The Question being put, That the Judges of the Four Courts in Westminster Hall be exempted out of the said Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That the Blank in the Bill be filled up with "the First Day of November."

Which was done accordingly.

Resolved, upon the Question, That these Words, "other than of the Officer himself," be inserted into the Bill.

Which was done accordingly.

The Question being put, That these Words "by Oath," shall stand in the Bill;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went out.

And so it was resolved in the Affirmative.

A Proviso to be tendered to be added to the Bill, That no Monies which should be collected or received upon the Bill, should be ordered or distributed amongst any that were named Commissioners in the Bill; and being thrice read;

Resolved, upon the Question, That the said Proviso be agreed to, and made Part of the Bill.

Resolved, That the said Bill, so amended, with the Proviso agreed to, do pass: And that the Title shall be, An Act for Distribution of Sixty thousand Pounds amongst the truly loyal and indigent Commission Officers, and for Assessing of Offices, and distributing the Monies thereby raised, for their further Supply.

And the Lord Bruce is to carry it up to the Lords.

Childstealing.

Ordered, That all the Members of this House, that serve for the Counties of Cornwall, Devon, Kent, or any Port Towns, be added to the Committee to which the Bill against Stealing and Transporting of Children and Servants is committed: And all the Members of this House that shall come to the said Committee, are to have Votes thereat.

Uniformity of Worship.

Ordered, That the House do proceed upon the Bill for Uniformity To-morrow Morning.

Bedford Level.

Ordered, That the Matter upon the Amendments to the Bill concerning Bedford Level be adjourned, from To-morrow until Monday Morning; and then taken into Consideration.

Coppleston's Estate.

Ordered, That Sir John Shaw, Mr. Cooke, Mr. Hoby, Sir Geo. Ryve, Mr. Lovelace, Sir Gilbert Gerrard, and Mr. Lucy, be added to the Committee to whom the Bill for confirming a Sale of Lands made by John Coppleston Esquire to John Mayne Merchant, is committed.
