Friday, the 12th of June, 1657.

Irish Adventurers.

THE House being acquainted, that there were divers Aldermen of the City of London, and others, at the Door, with a Petition; they were, by Order of the House, called in: And, being come to the Bar, Mr. Alderman Fooke declaring the Occasion of this Address, presented a Petition: Which, when they were withdrawn, was read; and was intituled, The humble Petition of the Committee of Adventurers for Lands in Ireland, on Behalf of themselves, and the rest of the said Adventurers, for whom they are intrusted.

Resolved, That the Bill for Adventurers for Ireland be read on Monday next.

Buildings.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Amendments to the Bill for Buildings.

The Question being put, That these Words, "within Ten Days after the Passing of this Act," in the Amendment, in the 7th Line of the 6 Folio, do stand;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That these Words; viz. "The First Day of July 1657;" be inserted into the room thereof.

The Question being put, That these Words; viz. "from and after the Printing, or other Publishing of this Act" do stand in the 3d Line of the 18 Page;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That these Words; viz. "from and after the 24th of June 1657;" be inserted in the room thereof.

Resolved, That in the 12th Line of the 5th Folio, after the Words, "the Twenty ninth of September 1657," these Words be added, "or within Three Months after the Setting of the said Fine:" And that, after the Words then next following, in the next Line, these Words be added; viz. "or within Six Months after the Setting of the said Fine."

Resolved, That this Bill, thus amended, shall be ingrossed.

Petition from Irish Members.

A Petition being tendered by a Member of the House, was read, being intituled, The humble Petition of the Members which serve for Ireland in this present Parliament:

But the Example of it being disliked generally by the House, the Petition was withdrawn, by Consent of the House.

Assessment for Ireland.

The Question being put, That Leave be given to speak concerning the Assessments of Ireland, To-morrow Morning;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it was Resolved, That Leave be given to speak concerning the Assessments of Ireland, To-morrow Morning.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Bill for the Assessment.

Resolved, That this Debate be adjourned till Three of Clock.

The House adjourned till Three of Clock this Afternoon.

Immoderate Living.

A BILL for punishing of such Persons as live at high Rates, and have no visible Estates, Profession, or Calling answerable thereunto, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time on Wednesday Morning next.

Assessment.

The House, according to former Order, resumed the Debate upon the Bill of Assessment, for Six hundred thousand Pounds a Year, for Three Years; to commence from the 24th Day of June 1657.

Resolved, That the present Assessment by this Act shall be in Proportion according to former Rates, notwishstanding the former Vote on Wednesday last.

A Proviso was tendered to this Bill, in these Words, "Provided nevertheless, and be it Enacted, by the Authority aforesaid, That in case, during the Continuance of this present Parliament, any other more equal Way of raising the said monthly Assessment of hereby appointed, shall be found; and the Parliament shall make a Declaration to that Purpose; That then such Part of the said Assessment as shall be then to be collected, shall be taxed, assessed, collected, levied, and paid, according to such Proportions upon the respective Counties and Places, or in such Way, and for such Time of the said Three Years, as the Parliament shall, by such Declaration, direct and set down; and not according to the Proportions in this Act expressed; this Act, or any thing therein contained to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding."

Which was read; and, upon the Question, agreed.

Resolved, That this Bill be referred to a Grand Committee of the whole House, to sit To-morrow at Ten of the Clock.

Resolved, That the Commissioners named in the Act for the Three Months Assessment, shall be Commissioners for the respective Counties, Cities, and Places in this Bill.

Resolved, That a Clause be inserted in this Bill, That the Commissioners in that Bill shall be Commissioners in this Bill, although they be not named therein.

Resolved, That the Matter of Assessments on Cardigan and Pembroke be referred to the Grand Committee, to take the same into Consideration; and report their Opinion therein to the House.
