Saturday, the 9th of May, 1657.

Privilege.

THE House being informed, that Samuell Chidley had served Robert Fenwick Esquire, a Member of Parliament, and Ralph Darnall Esquire, Clerk-Assistant to the Clerk of the Parliament, with a Subpæna out of Chancery.

Resolved, That Samuel Chidley be sent for in Custody, as a Delinquent.

Ditto.

The Speaker acquaints the House, That Ralph Gregge, an Attorney, and the Serjeant and Yeoman who arrested Major Waring, a Member of this House, are apprehended; and at the Door; and tendered a Petition to the House from the said Ralph Gregge, who professeth, He did not know the said Major Waring to be a Member of Parliament.

Major Waring acquaints the House with the Submission of Mr. Gregge, and that he did not know him to be a Member of Parliament; with which Major Waring is satisfied; and therefore desires the House to remit his Offence.

Resolved, That the Serjeant and Yeoman be called in to the Bar.

Resolved, That Ralph Gregge be likewise called in.

Resolved, That they be all Three called in together.

Being come to the Bar, Mr. Speaker did examine them: Mr. Gregge professeth, He did not know him to be a Member; and if he had, he would not.

Browne, the Serjeant at Mace to the Sheriffs of London, saith, He did arrest Major Waring, and confesseth, He told him he was a Member of the House: That he was in Custody about an Hour.

The Yeoman saith, He never saw Major Waring before. Confesseth, That he was assisting to the Serjeant. He did not know he was a Parliament-Man.

And thereupon, by Command of the House, they withdrew.

Resolved, That Ralph Gregge be discharged of this Contempt and Restraint.

Ralph Gregge was again called in: And being come to the Bar, the Speaker acquainted him with the Mercy of the House towards him, and demanded of him * * *.

Robert Harvey of London, Henry Aston of Chelsey, Smith, conceives their Names are used in Trust for Mr. Audley.

Resolved, That Hugh Audley be summoned to attend this House.

Resolved, That John Browne and Nicholas Wolley be committed to Newgate, and there continue for the Space of a Month.

And the said Browne and Wolley were called in, and, upon their Knees, received the said Judgment, accordingly.

Ditto.

The House being informed that Outlawries hath been, and are still, proceeded against Colonel Wood, a Member of this House, at the Suit of Robert Green and Thomas Denham, and by one Stanton an Attorney;

Resolved, That Robert Green and Thomas Denman, and one Wm. Stanton an Attorney, be summoned to attend this House, to answer their Breach of Privilege.

Lord Protector's Speech.

Resolved, That the Report of the Lord Protector's Speech Yesterday, be made to the House on Tuesday next.

Restraining Buildings.

A Bill, intituled, An Act for preventing the Multiplicity of Buildings, in and about the Suburbs of London, and with . . Brick-kilns, &c.

Ordered, That it be referred to the same Committee, to consider of Brick-kilns and Lime-kilns; and how far distant from the Cities of London and Westminster it is fit they should be removed: And bring in something to the House for that Purpose.

Petition from Bermondsey, &c.

The humble Petition of divers of the Inhabitants of Bermondsey and Reddereth, in the County of Surrey, was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the same Committee.

Earl of Bedford's Petition.

The humble Petition of William Earl of Bedford, was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Petition of the Earl of Bedford be referred to the same Committee.

Lloyde's Estate.

Resolved, That Dr. Clerges, Colonel Harvey, Mr. Shuttleworth, Major Beake of Coventry, Mr. Alsop, Mr. Whiteway, Colonel Cooper, Mr. Bond, Alderman Tigh, Mr. Copleston, Colonel Grosvenor, Mr. Waller, Mr. Williams, Mr. Margetts, Mr. Delanoy, Mr. Berisford, Mr. Shirley, Major Wagstaff, Mr. Disbrow, be added to the Committee for Mr. Lloyde's Bill.

Resolved, That the same Persons be added to the Committee for Mr. Bullock's Petition and Mr. Mitchell's Petition.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee, to consider of a fit Number of Commissioners, to be inserted into this Bill; and to present the Names of so many Persons, as a double Number to the House, of such Persons as they shall conceive fit for that Work.

Petition from Colchester.

The humble Petition of divers Inhabitants in Colchester, was this Day read.

The Question being put, That this Petition be committed;

Resolved, That the Bill for the Adventurers for Lands in Ireland be read the same Day, after the other Bill.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, That Colonel Shuttleworth have Leave to go into the Country.
