Tuesday, the 5th of May, 1657.

Privilege.

THE House being informed that Major Waring, a Member of Parliament, was arrested in the City of London, by John Browne, a Serjeant at the Mace, belonging to Woodstreet-Counter, and Nicholas Wolley, his Yeoman, by the Direction of Ralph Grigge, an Attorney of Clement's Inn, at the Suit of * Harvey and * Alston;

Resolved, That Ralph Gregg, John Browne, Nicholas Wolley, * Harvey, and * Aston, be sent for in safe Custody, as Delinquents.

Adjournment.

The Question being put, That the House shall be adjourned till To-morrow Morning at Eight of Clock;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it passed in the Negative.

Relief of Edwards, &c.

An Additional Act, for the ascertaining and effectual setting out of Lands and Houses in Ireland, in Consideration of Losses sustained by Anthony Edwards, and others the well-affected Inhabitants of the City of Gloucester, was this Day read the Third time.

A Proviso was tendered to this Bill, in these Words; viz. "Provided, That this Bill, or any thing therein contained, shall not extend to the granting or disposing of any Houses, Lands, Tenements, or Hereditaments, in Ireland, which are subjected and liable to the Satisfaction of the Adventurers and Soldiers, or either, or any of them, by Virtue of any former Act or Ordinance of Parliament:" Which was read the First time; and the Question being put, That this Proviso be read the Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

Another Proviso was tendered to this Bill, in these Words; viz. "Provided, That this Act, or any thing therein contained, shall not extend to the granting or disposing of any Houses, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, within the Myle-Lyne, in the Province of Connaught, or County of Clare, granted by his Highness and Council towards Satisfaction of the Arrears due to the Army in Ireland, before the Year 1649: Which was read.

Resolved, That this Proviso shall be read the Second time.

The said Proviso was read the Second time accordingly.

An Addition was offered to this Proviso, in these Words; viz. "Except the City of Gallowey and Town of Athlone, and two Miles respectively off the said City and Town, lying within the said Myle-Lyne."

Resolved, That this Clause be added to the Proviso.

Resolved, That this Proviso thus amended, be Part of the Bill: And the Bill, with the said Proviso, was, upon the Question, passed.

Ordered, That this Bill be presented to his Highness the Lord Protector, for his Consent.

Protector to be attended.

The Master of the Rolls acquaints the House, That his Highness hath appointed the Committee to attend him To-morrow in the Afternoon.

Resolved, That the Committee do attend his Highness accordingly, To-morrow in the Afternoon.

Vagrants.

The Question being propounded, That the Bill against Vagrants be now read;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

The House was divided.

The Noes went forth.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That the Bill against Vagrants be now read.

A Bill against Vagrants, and wandering, idle, dissolute Persons, was this Day read the Third time.

The Question being put, That these Words, "The First of February," shall stand;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, That these Words, "The First of July 1657," be inserted instead thereof.

And the said Bill so amended, being put to the Question, passed.

Ordered, That his Highness the Lord Protector's Consent be desired to this Bill.

Army Appointment.

The Lord Broghill acquaints this House, That his Highness having, with the Consent of this House, raised some Forces for special Service, and having made Choice of Sir John Reynolds Knight, a Member of this House, to command the said Forces; but doth respite giving any Orders unto him, until the Leave of this House be obtained; and therefore the said Lord Broghill did desire the Leave of the House, that the said Sir John Reynolds may accept of the said Service.

Resolved, That Sir John Reynolds, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to accept of and undertake the said Service.

Resolved, That all Committees have Liberty to sit, notwithstanding this Adjournment.

Resolved, That the Committee for Regulation of the Chancery, and all other Committees, be revived; to sit this Afternoon, in the same Place, where formerly they were appointed.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, That Major Halsey have Leave to go into Ireland.

Probate of Wills.

Resolved, That the Report upon the Bill for Probate of Wills, be made on Monday next.

Creditors, &c.

Resolved, That the Bill for Creditors and poor Prisoners be read on Thursday-next-come-sevennight.

Tythes.

Resolved, That the Bill for Tythes be read on Friday next.
