Saturday, the 7th of March, 1656.

Exeter Ministers.

MR. Bampfeild reports Amendments to the Bill for Uniting several Churches in Exeter, and the better Maintenance of Ministers there, &c.: Which were twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

Ordered, That the said Bill be ingrossed.

War with Spaine.

Mr. Secretary acquaints the House, from his Highness the Lord Protector, That his Highness and the Council do judge it necessary that some further Forces be raised for the carrying on the War with Spaine.

Resolved, That this House doth consent, that his Highness, with the Advice of the Council, do raise such further Forces, as they shall judge necessary, for the carrying on the War with Spaine.

Distribution of Collection.

Resolved, That the Serjeant at Arms attending this House do distribute the Monies collected on the Day of publick Humiliation in this House on Friday Sevennight, amongst the Persons under-named, the Sum amounting to Ten Pounds and Two Shillings; viz. to Duncan Manton, Widow Lewis, Mrs. Pinckney, Widow Young, Joane Purcas Widow, Sarah Scott, Wm. Emerton, Old Cornelius, Widow Conway, Widow Cardell, Edmond Cooper.

Probate of Wills.

Ordered, That the Report of the Amendments to the Bill for Probate of Wills be made upon Tuesday Morning next.

Assessment.

A Bill for an Assessment upon England, at the Rate of Sixty thousand Pounds by the Month, for Three Months, from the 25th of March 1657 to the 24 of June then next ensuing, was this Day read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Proportion to be set upon the several Counties and Places in this Bill, shall be, for these Three Months, the same which hath been formerly set in the former Acts of Parliament, according to the Rate of Sixty thousand Pounds by the Month.

Resolved, That the Monies to be raised by this Assessment, be paid into the Exchequer, according to the old Way of Subsidies.

Resolved, That the Clause for Billeting of Soldiers be left out of this Bill.

Resolved, That this Bill be committed to a Grand Committee, to meet and sit on Wednesday in the Afternoon, at Two of the Clock.

Resolved, That all the Members do bring in the Names to be inserted into the Bill for the Assessment for the Counties and Places for which they serve, to the Grand Committee, on Wednesday next.

Adjournment.

Resolved, That, at the Rising of the House, the House be adjourned till Monday Morning next, notwithstanding the former Order.

Ld. Clanebois' Composition.

A Bill of Confirmation of the Composition of James Lord Viscount Clanebois, was this Day read the First time.

Lord Teinham's Estate.

A Bill for to enable Charles Lord Teinham Baron of Teinham to sell Lands, for Payment of his Debts, and Raising of Portions, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the second time on Tuesday Morning next.

Bridges' Arrears.

The humble Petition of Colonel John Bridges, heretofore Governor of the Town and Castle of Warwick, was this Day read.

Upon Consideration of the humble Petition of Colonel John Bridges, setting forth, That the said Colonel John Bridges served the Parliament as Governor and Commander in Chief of the Town and Castle of Warwick from July 1642 till February 1648, and was within the Establishment of the Army, and ought to be satisfied his Arrears with them; but, because he was not in Service in May 1649, the Commissioners for stating Accompts at Worcester-house, cannot, by their Rules, state his Accompts, and give him Debentures; It is

Ordered, by the Parliament, That it be referred to the said Commissioners for stating Accompts at Worcesterhouse, and the said Commissioners are hereby impowered and authorized, to state the Accompts of the said Colonel John Bridges, and to give him Debentures for such Arrears as shall appear to be due upon his said Accompt so stated (and that the Trustees for Sale of the Lands of the late King, Queen, and Prince, be authorized and required thereupon to give him Bonds), according to the Rules prescribed for the Officers of the Army, notwithstanding the said Colonel John Bridges was not in Service in May 1649.

Union with Ireland.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee, on Wednesday next, in the Afternoon, for the Union of Ireland into one Commonwealth with England.
