Tuesday, the 30th of December, 1656.

Clerk-Assistant.

THE humble Petition of Ralph Darnall Esquire, Clerk-Assistant in Parliament, was this Day read.

Resolved, That Two hundred Pounds per Ann. Salary be settled upon Ralph Darnall, Clerk-Assistant to the Clerk of the Parliament: And that the Arrears thereof be paid unto him, or his Assigns, from the 24th of June 1653.

Ordered, That it be offered to his Highness the Lord Protector, from this House, That his Highness will be pleased to settle the said Salary of Two hundred Pounds per Ann. upon the said Ralph Darnall during his Life, as Clerk-Assistant to the Clerk of the Parliament: And that his Highness will be pleased to give Warrant, as well for the Payment of the Arrears of the said Salary now due unto him for the Time passed, as for the future Payment thereof.

Wiltes Sheriffs' Court.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee to whom the Bill for Holding the County-Court for the County of Wiltes at the Devizes, is referred, to consider of the Bond heretofore given by the Lord Commissioner Fynes, Mr. John Ash, a Member of this House, and Mr. Clement Walker, to Mary Bouchier, deceased, and to examine what Interest or Title any Person or Persons, other than George Bouchier, formerly executed for Conspiracy in Bristoll, hath in the Sum of Six hundred Pounds, for which the said Bond was given; and whether the said Money do not belong to the State, and so the Bond ought to be delivered up by the Executrix; and report the same, with their Opinion therein to the House: With Power to the said Committee to send for Persons, Papers, and Records: And Mr. Attorney-General, Mr. Recorder of London, Judge-Advocate Whaley, and Colonel Cely, are added to that Committee.

Ordered, That the Petition of the Soap-Boilers be read To-morrow Morning.

Grant to Gen. Monck.

A Bill for Confirmation of a Charter granted by the Lord Protector to General George Monck of the Barony of Keniell, and other Lands, in pursuance of several Orders of Parliament, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to Dr. Clarges, Mr. Attorney-General, Lord Cockram, Lord Lambert, Lord Broghill, Judge-Advocate Whaley, Major-General Goff, Colonel Barcaly, Sir Christofer Pack, Sir James Macdowell, Sir Wm. Strickland, Alderman Drury, Sir Edward Rhodes, Mr. Margetts, Captain Baines, Mr. Godfrey, Major Wagstaff, Mr. Barrington, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Downing, Colonel Whetham, Mr. Moody, and all that serve for Scotland: And this Committee are to meet To-morrow, at Two of Clock in the Afternoon, in the Lobby of the late House of Lords.

Bristoll Ministers.

An Act for explaining a former Act of Parliament, made for the more frequent Preaching of the Gospel, and Maintenance of Ministers, in the City of Bristoll, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time on Friday Morning next.

Corpus Christi Col. Oxon.

The humble Petition of the President and Scholars of Corpus Christi College, in the University of Oxford, was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Petition be committed to a Committee, to examine the Particulars in the Petition; and to hear the Parties concerned on both Sides; and to state the same; and report it, with their Opinion, to the House; Viz. the Lord Commissioner Fiennes, Mr. Crooke, Mr. Attorney General, Master of the Rolls, Lord Commissioner Whitelock, Judge Advocate Whaley, Mr. Lucy, Mr. Aldworth, Mr. Throckmorton, Major General Howard, Colonel Carter, Mr. Bond, Colonel Whetham, Sir Richard Everard, Mr. Bampfeild, Alderman Foote, Captain Scotten, Mr. Margetts, Major General Whaley, Dr. Clarges, Colonel Hewson, Colonel Purefoy, Colonel Mathews, Mr. Noell, Captain Fiennes, Major Brooke, Sir Wm. Relief of Claimants.

Ordered, That the Bill for Relief of all such Persons who have obtained Allowances of their Claims, in pursuance of the Instruction of the Council of State, given the 15th of June 1653, be read on Friday Morning next.

The House, according to former Order, resumed the Debate upon his Highness the Lord Protector's Letter.
