Saturday, 4th October, 1656.

Tanturier's, &c. Nat.

A BILL for naturalizing Florentine Tanturier, John Bex, Mathew Boucherett, Wm. Leonard, Robert Leonard, Mary Leonard, Wm. Northey, was this Day read the First time; and ordered to be read the Second time, on Monday next.

Bastardy, &c.

Ordered, That a Committee be appointed to revise the Acts and Laws touching Bastardy, Adultery, and Fornication; and to reduce them into one Law; with such Alterations and Additions as shall be necessary to supply the Defects in those Laws: Viz. Mr. Boteler, Mr. Ash, Mr. Bampfield, Mr. Carey, Colonel Cock, Mr. Francis Bacon.

Committee for Religion.

Ordered, That Liberty be given to the Members of the House, to speak against the Vote for the Grand Committee for Religion to sit on Monday.

Committees.

Resolved, That no Committee shall sit upon Friday in the Afternoon; which was this Day appointed for the Committee for Religion to sit.

Committee of Privileges.

Resolved, That the Committee for Privileges do sit only on Mondays and Saturdays in the Afternoon.

Success of the Fleet.

The Lord Lambert reports from the Committee appointed to attend his Highness the Lord Protector, That they have attended his Highness with the said Narrative; who doth give his Consent thereunto, with the Addition of the Word "us," in the 7th Line of the 6th Folio: Which Addition was, upon the Question, made: And, the Narrative, so amended, passed.

Ordered, That this Narrative be printed and published.

Ordered, That it be recommended to the Lord Mayor of the City of London, and the Justices of the Peace within the Counties of Middlesex and Surrey, to give Notice to the several Ministers within the Cities of London and Westminster, and the late Lines of Communication, that To-morrow, being the Lord's Day, they do give Notice of the Day of Thanksgiving, appointed to be on Wednesday next; and read the Narrative printed by Order of Parliament.

Security of Protector's Person.

Ordered, That Power be given to the Committee, to whom the Bill, intituled, An Act for Security of his Highness the Lord Protector his Person, and Continuance of the Nation in Peace and Safety, to bring in Names of Persons to be Commissioners in the several Commissions to be issued by Force of that Act, in England, Scotland, and Ireland.

Sequestered Parsonages, &c.

A Bill for the quiet Enjoying of sequestered Parsonages and Vicarages, by the present Incumbent, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to Lord Whitlock, Mr. Recorder, Lord Chief Justice Glyn, Mr. Robinson, Lord Broghill, Mr. Bedford, Colonel Phil. Jones, Colonel Rous, Mr. Fowell, Major General Kelsey, Mr. West, Attorney of the Duchy, Mr. Fleetwood, Lord Cleypoole, Mr. Ash, Sir Wm. Roberts, Sir John Hobart, Mr. Wm. Lister, Mr. Pury, Major Burton, Mr. Banks, Mr. Downing, Mr. Bond, Alderman Foote, Mr. Throckmorton, Captain Blackwell, Sir Sam. Sleigh, Mr. Bampfeild, Lord Lambert, Mr. Beake, Sir Gilb. Carmarthen Writ.

The Lord Cleypoole, being elected, and returned to serve as a Knight for the County of Northampton, and also for the County of Carmarthen, doth make his Election to serve for the County of Northampton.

Ordered, That a Warrant issue under Mr. Speaker's Hand, to the Clerk of the Commonwealth in Chancery, to issue forth a Writ for the New Election of a Person to be a Knight for the County of Carmarthen, to serve in this present Parliament.

Members make their Election.

Major-General Kelsey, being returned to serve for the Port of Dover in Kent, and for Guilford in the County of Surrey, doth make his Election to serve for the Port of Dover; and waves his Election for Guilford.

Colonel John Jones being returned to serve for the Counties of Merioneth and Denbigh, doth make his Election to serve for the County of Meryoneth; and waves his Election for Denbigh.

Oaths.

A Bill against customary Oaths, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time, on Tuesday next.

Prisoners for Treason.

Ordered, That Mr. Searle, Colonel Bethell, Mr. Westlake, Mr. Jenkins, Colonel Coker, Mr. John Dunch, Mr. Robinson, be added to the Committee to whom it was referred, to consider of Prisoners for Treason.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Stone of Salisbury, have Leave to go into the Country for Ten Days.

Corn and Meal.

Mr. Solicitor General reports an Act for repealing of a Branch in an Act of Parliament, intituled, An Act touching Corn and Meal: Which was this Day read the First time.

Divers having spoken to the casting out of this Bill; and others for retaining of it; The Question was put, For the Second Reading: And thereupon, It was

Resolved, That this Bill shall be read the Second time.

Ordered, That the same be read the Second time, on Monday next.
