ORDERED, by the Parliament, That Mr. Rous do give the hearty Thanks of the Parliament to Mr. Stephen Marshall, for his great Pains taken in his Sermon Yesterday before the Parliament, and in Carrying-on the Work of that Day.

Ordered, That Mr. Recorder do give the hearty Thanks of the Parliament to Dr. Thomas Goodwin, for his great Pains taken in his Sermon Yesterday before the Parliament, and in Carrying-on the Work of that Day.

Ordered, That Colonel Jones do give the hearty Thanks of the Parliament to Dr. Francis Cheynell, for his great Pains taken in his Sermon Yesterday before the Parliament, and in Carrying-on the Work of that Day.

Fast day.

Resolved, That the Committee appointed to prepare a Declaration touching the Fast, do report the same to the House on Monday next: And that Mr. Recorder do take Care thereof.

Resolved, That the Day of publick Fasting and Humiliation be put off, from the 4th of October to the 11th of the same Month.

Resolved, That the Parliament do keep the Fast on that Day in this House.

Resolved, That Mr. Sidrach Simpson be desired to be assisting in Carrying-on the Work of the Day of Fasting and Humiliation, in this House, on the 11th Day of October next: And that Captain Stone do give him Notice hereof.

Resolved, That Mr. John Turner of St. Needes, be desired to be assisting in Carrying-on the Work of the Day of Fasting and Humiliation, in this House, on the 11th Day of October next: And that Colonel Montagu do give him Notice hereof.

Resolved, That Mr. Venning be desired to be assisting in Carrying-on the Work of the Day of Fasting and Humiliation, in this House, on the 11th Day of October next: And that Commissary-General Whaley do give him Notice hereof.

Recognition of Government.

Resolved, That some Members of the House be appointed forthwith to withdraw; and, upon the present Debate and Sense of the House, for further Satisfaction, in reference to the Subscription, to prepare something to be offered to the House for their further Consideration: Viz. Colonel Fines, Sir H. Vane, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Attorney-General, Lord Commissioner Whitlock, Colonel Clerke, Lord Commissioner Widdrington, Lord Commissioner Lisle, Sir John Hobart.

The Lord Commissioner Whitelock reports from the Committee appointed to withdraw, a Paper containing these Words; viz.

The Parliament doth Declare, That the Recognition of the Government, by the Members of this Parliament, in the Words following; viz.

"I do hereby freely promise and engage, to be true and faithful to the Lord Protector, and the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland; and shall not, according to the Tenor of the Indenture, whereby I am returned to serve in this present Parliament, propose, or give my Consent, to alter the Government, as it is settled in One Person and a Parliament;"

Doth not comprehend, nor shall be construed to comprehend therein, the whole Government, consisting of Fortytwo Articles; but that the same doth only include what concerns the Government of the Commonwealth, by a Single Person and successive Parliaments.

Which was several times read; and, upon the Question, was resolved; and passed.

Ordered, by the Parliament, That this Declaration be forthwith printed and published.

Record of Government.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That the Clerk of the Parliament do bring into this House the Original Record of the Government of the Commonwealth, to remain in this House, for the further Consideration of this House.
