Monday, 28th of November, 1653.

Inclosures.

ORDERED, That it be referred to the Committee for the Poor, to consider of the Business where Inclosures have been or shall be made, how there may be a prevention of Depopulations, and Decay of Tillage; and offer to the House what they shall think fit to be done therein.

Naval Officers Widows, &c.

Major Burton reports from the Committee for the Admiralty and Navy, in pursuance of an Order of Parliament of the 5th of August 1653; whereby it is referred to the said Commissioners, to consider of some Provision to be made for the Wives and Children of such Captains as were slain in the late Engagement with the Dutch: The said Commissioners, upon Examination, find, that, besides the Eight Captains lately represented to be slain, there are Two more since dead of the Wounds they received in the said Engagement, who behaved themselves very valiantly in the Service; And upon Consideration of the said Condition of their respective Widows and Children, do humbly offer, That the Parliament will be pleased to allow unto them, for the Maintenance and Relief of the said Widows and Children, the several Sums of Money hereafter following; viz. To the Widow of Captain Wm. Rowse, late Captain of the Portland Frigat, a Third-Rate Ship, having Ten Children, Nine whereof are unprovided for, the Sum of Nine hundred and Twenty Pounds; whereof Two hundred Pounds to herself, and Fourscore Pounds apiece to the Children: And to the Widow of Captain James Bamford late Captain of the Recovery, having one Child, the Sum of Two hundred and Fifty Pounds: whereof One hundred and Fifty to herself, and One hundred Pounds to her Child.

Ordered, That there be paid to the Widow of Captain Wm. Rowse, late Captain of the Portland Frigat, the Sum of Nine hundred and Twenty Pounds; whereof Two hundred Pounds to herself, and Fourscore Pounds apiece to the Nine Children of the said Captain Rowse, unprovided for.

Ordered, That there be paid to the Widow of Captain James Bamford, late Captain of the Recovery, having one Child, the Sum of Two hundred and Fifty Pounds; whereof One hundred and Fifty Pounds to herself, and One hundred Pounds to her Child.

Trinity Col. Cambridge.

An Address from Trinity College, in November the Five-and-twentieth, 1653, was this Day read.

Ordered, That Dr. John Arrowsmith be, and is hereby constituted and appointed to be Master of Trinity College, in Cambridge, in the stead of Doctor Hill, late Master thereof, deceased.

St. John's Col. Cambridge.

The Question being propounded, That Mr. John Yates be put into the Sequestration of the Place of Master of St. John's College in Cambridge;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

The House was divided.

So it passed in the Affirmative.

So it was Resolved, That Mr. John Yates be put into the Sequestration of the Place of Master of St. John's College in Cambridge.

Shoreditch Vicarage.

The Petition of the godly and well-affected Inhabitants of Shoreditch, in the County of Middlesex, was this Day read.

Ordered, That Mr. Francis Raworth be confirmed and continued in the Vicarage of the Parish Church of Shoreditch, in the County of Middlesex, in the Place of John Squire, deceased.

Grant to Jones.

Colonel Cromwell reports from the Council of State, the humble Petition of Colonel Theophilus Jones: Which was this Day read.

Resolved, That Colonel Theophilus Jones shall have and enjoy the Town and Lands of Lucan, in the County of Dublyn, and Province of Lemster, in Ireland, with some other Parcels of Land lately belonging to one Sarsefield of Lucan, in which the said Colonel Theophilus Jones claims a Lease from the Commonwealth, at the Rent of One hundred and Ninety Pounds yearly, for and towards the Satisfaction of such Arrears as are due unto him for his Service for the Parliament; he paying for the same half so much more as other the Lands within that Province are to be sold at; viz. Nine hundred Pounds for a Thousand Acres, Allowance being made out of the same unto him for his present Estate in the Premises, or any Part thereof: And the Commissioners of Parliament in Ireland are hereby authorized and required to set out the same unto the said Colonel Theophilus Jones, his Heirs or Assigns, to be enjoyed by him, his Heirs and Assigns, accordingly.

Officers of the House.

Ordered, That the Salaries unto the Clerk of the Parliament, Serjeant at Arms attending the Parliament, Clerk Assistant to the Clerk of the Parliament, and other the Servants attending the Parliament, together with the other Allowances granted and made to them, or any of them, by Order or Vote of Parliament, be charged upon the Receipts of Goldsmiths-hall, and Haberdashers-hall: And that the Commissioners for compounding be, and hereby are authorized and required to issue their Warrants unto the Treasurers for Payment of the Arrears now due, and of the same from time to time as they shall become due: And the said Treasurers, and either of them, are hereby authorized and required to make Payment thereof unto the said Officers and Persons from time to time respectively, according to such Warrant: And the Acquittance and Acquittances of the said Officers and Persons respectively, shall be a sufficient Discharge unto the said Treasurers, and either of them, for the same.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Inspection of the Treasuries, to examine and consider what Sum and Sums of Money are justly due, as well unto the present Officers attending the Parliament, as any other Persons who have been discharged for their Service unto the last Parliament, by virtue of any Grant or Allowance made to them by the said Parliament; and, upon their Certificate thereof, unto the Commissioners for compounding: The said Commissioners for compounding are authorized and required to issue their Warrant unto the Treasurers at Goldsmiths-hall, or Haberdashers-hall, to make Payment of such Sum and Sums of Money respectively, unto the said Officers and Persons aforesaid Which the said Treasurers are hereby authorized and required to pay accordingly: And the Acquittance and Acquittances of the said Officers and Persons respectively, shall be a sufficient Discharge unto the said Treasurers, and either of them, for the same.

Ordered, That it be referred to the respective Committees, to consider what Servants are necessary to be employed by them; and what Allowances are fit to be made unto them in respect thereof; and to report the same to the Parliament.

Excise.

Resolved, That the Business of Excise be taken up To-morrow Morning, the first Business; and nothing to intervene.

Admiralty.

Ordered, That the Business touching the Commissioners of the Admiralty, and Generals at Sea, be considered next after the Business of Excise.

Scotland.

Ordered, That the Bill concerning Scotland be read next to the Business of the Commissioners for the Admiralty, and the Generals at Sea.
