Saturday, the 12th of November, 1653.

Sheriff of Surrey.

WHEREAS in a Vote of Parliament of the Tenth of this Month, appointing a Sheriff of the County of Surrey, the Name of Anthony Smyth is mistaken, and made John Smyth; It is Ordered, That the same Mistake be amended in the said Vote, and made Anthony instead of John.

E. of Derby's Estate.

Colonel West reports, a Bill, intituled, An Act for settling Lands, late of James Earl of Derby, of the yearly Value of Five hundred Pounds, upon Charles Earl of Derby, and his Heirs: Which was this Day read the First time; and ordered to be read the Second Time on Tuesday Morning.

Norwich Stuffs.

A Bill for regulating the Making of Stuffs in Norfolk and Norwich, was this Day read the Second time.

The Question being put, That this Proviso, in the 9th Folio, in these Words; viz. "Provided, That if any defective Yarn shall be seized on, and the Defects shall be found to be only in the Number and Numbers of Threads; and the Want be not above Four Threads in one Lea; and that not in above Three Leas in one Reel-Staff; and the Yarn-Seller not having been, at the least, Three times in the Year last past, found and warned with and of the said Defects, so as that the Jury may, upon good Grounds, judge, that the Party, offering such Yarn to Sale, hath not done, or permitted, or connived with, any Act therein tending to Fraud; then, and in such Case, the said Yarn is to be freed from Seizure; any thing in this Act to the contrary notwithstanding;" do stand in the Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

And the Blank, in the 13 Line of the 5th Leaf, being filled up with the Word "Fifteen;"

And the Question being put, That this Bill be ingrossed;

It passed in the Negative.

And the Bill, being put to the Question, passed: And was ordered to be printed and published.

Scotch Army.

Colonel Clerk reports from the Committee of the Army;

THAT, it be humbly reported to the Parliament, That this Committee, having considered of the Pay of the Forces in Scotland, find, that the Assessments charged thereon, being Ten thousand and Sixteen Pounds Ten Shillings a Month, which was applied towards the Payment of the said Forces in Scotland, expired the First of November instant: And they further humbly offer, That the Parliament will please to renew an Assessment upon Scotland, for what Sum they shall think fit, for the Space of Eight Months, to commence from the First of November instant, until the 24th of June 1654; and that the same be levied, without any Abatement.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That there be an Assessment of Ten thousand and Sixteen Pounds Ten Shillings by the Month, charged upon Scotland, towards the Payment of the Forces there for Eight Months; to commence from the First Day of November instant, until the 24th of June 1654.

Ordered, That the Commander in Chief in Scotland be authorized and required to take effectual Care, to levy and raise the said Sum of Ten thousand and Sixteen Pounds Ten Shillings by the Month: And that a Copy of the Vote be sent unto him, to put the same in Execution, accordingly.

Resolved, That the said Monthly Sums of Ten thousand and Sixteen Pounds Ten Shillings be issued forth for the Pay of the Forces, and other Contingencies there, by Warrant and Order of the Committee for the Army.

Union with Scotland.

Resolved, That the Report of the Amendments to the Bill for uniting Scotland into one Commonwealth with England, be reported on Thursday next.
