Saturday, the 30th of July, 1653.

Resident at Hambrough.

A LETTER from Mr. Bradshaw, Resident for the Parliament at Hambrough, dated the 19th of July 1653, with a Paper inclosed, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take Consideration of the Continuance of Mr. Bradshaw, Resident at Hamborough: And to give Order therein; with such Instructions as they shall think fit, for the Service of the Commonwealth.

Irish Affairs.

A Letter from the Commissioners of the Commonwealth in Ireland, dated at Dublyn, the 22th of July 1653, with Two Papers of Proposals from the Council of the Army in Ireland; the one dated the Tenth, the other the 29th of June 1653, with a Paper from the Commissioners for stating Soldiers Arrears.

Ordered, That this Letter, and Papers, be referred to the Committee for Irish Affairs, to take the same into Consideration; and, upon the Whole, to perfect the Bill that lies before them, touching the Lands in Ireland; And to make Provision therein for these Particulars, or such of them as they see Cause, in such Manner as they shall think fit: And report the Bill to the Parliament, with all Speed.

Norfolk Petition.

The humble Petition of divers the well-affected Inhabitants of the County of Norfolk, and the City of Norwich, was this Day read.

Ordered, That Thanks be returned to the Petitioners for their good Affections: And that Colonel Jermy do return them Thanks accordingly; and acquaint them, That the Matters contained in the Petition are already under Consideration.

Prisons, &c.-Complaint against Lenthall.

Mr. Anlaby reported from the Committee for Prisons and Prisoners, Proceedings of that Committee, touching Sir John Lenthall, Marshal of the Upper-Bench; and touching the State of that Prison.

The humble Answer of Sir John Lenthall Knight, Marshal of the Upper-Bench, was this Day read.

Resolved, That Sir John Lenthall shall be secured, to answer such Matters as shall be objected against him, on Behalf of the Commonwealth.

Resolved, That the Serjeant at Arms do take the said Sir John Lenthall into Custody, accordingly.

Ordered, That Edward Dendy Esquire, Serjeant at Arms, be authorized to take care of the Prison of the Upper-Bench; and immediately take the Charge of the Prisoners therein.

And that the said Serjeant Dendy shall have the like Charge of, and Power over, the Prisoners and Officers there, as the Marshal of the said Upper-Bench hath, or ought to have, until this House take further Order.

Ordered, That it be referred to the same Committee to receive such Informations as shall be given against Sir John Lenthall, Marshal of the Upper-Bench; and to examine the Truth of them; with Power to send for Persons, Papers, Witnesses: And to report to the Parliament.

Hart reprieved.

The humble Petition of Stephen Hart, a condemned Prisoner in Maidston Gaol, in the County of Kent, was this Day read.

Ordered, by the Parliament, That Stephen Hart, being a condemned Prisoner in Maidston Gaol, condemned for a Robbery, be reprieved until the First Day of October next: And that, in the mean time, the Judge, before whom he was tried, do certify to the Parliament the Matter of Fact touching the said Stephen Hart: And the Sheriff is required to forbear Execution in the mean time.

Admiralty Jurisdiction.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Bill for settling the Jurisdiction of the Admiralty.

Resolved, That Doctor Clark shall be one of the Judges of the Admiralty.

Resolved, That Colonel Charles Cock shall be one of the Judges of the Admiralty.

Resolved, That this Act shall continue in Force until the 25th Day of March 1654.

Resolved, That the Quorum of these Judges be Two.

The Question being put, For the ingrossing the Act;

It passed in the Negative.

And the said Act, so amended, being put to the Question, passed; and was ordered to be printed and published.

Ordered, That the Regulation of the Court of Admiralty be referred to the Committee for the Poor, and Justices of Peace, to consider thereof; and to report to the Parliament.
