Friday, the 26th of November, 1652.

Prayers.

Sheriff of Leicester.

THE Question being propounded, That Abell Barker be discharged for being Sheriff of the County of Leicester for the Year ensuing;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; it was

Resolved, by the Parliament, That Abell Barker Esquire be discharged from being Sheriff of the County of Leicester.

Resolved, That William Quarles Esquire be nominated and appointed Sheriff of the County of Leicester for the Year ensuing: And that the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England do issue forth a Commission to him to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

Ordered, That Mr. Keate, Sheriff of the County of Oxford, have Liberty to go out of his County about his necessary Occasions; he not neglecting the Duty of his Place.

Sheriff of Nottingham.

The Question being propounded, That Bryan Broughton, Sheriff of Nott' be discharged from being Sheriff of the County of Nottingham for the Year ensuing.

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

Judges of Admiralty.

The House this Day, according to former Order, proceeded in the Election of Three Persons to be Judges of the Admiralty.

Resolved, That the Door be shut.

Mr. Speaker appointed Mr. Strickland, Mr. Nevill, Colonel Sidney, and Mr. Say, to tell the Number of the Members in the House: Which is by them reported to Mr. Speaker, and by him published to the House, to be the Number of Ninety-two.

Colonel Pyne, Colonel Brooke, Thomas Challoner, and Mr. Boone, came in after the House was told: Which made Ninety-seven.

The Clerk, having received a Paper from each Member, brought them up; and set them upon the Table.

Mr. Speaker appointed Mr. Strickland, Mr. Nevill, Colonel Sidney, and Mr. Say, to count the Papers: Which being done, they report the Number of the Papers to be Ninety-five.

And the Four Members opened each Paper; and caused the Clerk to read each Name distinctly; and to write down each Name in a several Column; and, as often as any Name was repeated, the Clerk did set down a Stroke under that Name.

And all the Names being read: Colonel Sidney reports from the said four Members, That there are in the said Papers these Three Persons, who have the greatest Number of Subscriptions; viz.

Nathaniel Bacon Esquire 55
Dr. Stephens 35
Dr. Exton 41

Resolved, That Nathaniell Bacon Esquire be one of the Judges of the Admiralty for the next Year.

Resolved, That Dr. Exton be one of the Judges of the Admiralty for the next Year.

Resolved, That Dr. Stephens be one of the Judges of the Admiralty for the next Year.

The Judges.

Resolved, That the House do take into Consideration the Judges on this Day Sevennight.

Sheriff of Bucks.

Ordered, That the Sheriff of the County of Bucks have Liberty to go out of his County; not neglecting the Duty of his Place.

Sheriff of Kent.

Ordered, That the Sheriff of the County of Kent be dispensed with for living out of the County until the next Term, in regard of his Indisposition; not neglecting the Duty of his Place.

Letters read.

Colonel Wauton reports from the Council of State, Two Letters, of the 24th Instant, from General Blake, to the Council: Which were this Day read.

He also reports, A Letter from the Commissioners for the Navy: Which was also read.

Navy.

He also reports from the Council of State, That the Council, having taken into Consideration the Order of Parliament, of the 28th Day of September 1652, concerning the Building of Thirty new Frigates; and the State's Master-Shipwright and others being conferred with, as well touching the several Rates they are to be of, and the several Places they are to be built at, as also the Charge; do find, that the Charge of building the said Ships, victualling, and setting them forth to Sea, for Six Months, will amount unto Three hundred thousand Pounds, to be paid at Four several times, One Fourth in Hand, and the rest at Three and Three Months at farthest: All which Colonel Walton is desired to represent to the Parliament, to the end a certain Way may be assigned, for furnishing the Money at such times as the same shall grow due.

That Colonel Wauton do also humbly remind the House, of resuming the Consideration, of providing a Way for the Pay of the Mariners, and other pressing Occasions of the Navy.

The Question being propounded, That there shall be Three Generals for governing the Fleet, and Fleets at Sea, for the Year ensuing;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed in the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That there shall be Three Generals for governing the Fleet, and Fleets at Sea, for the Year ensuing, from the Third of December 1652, until the Third of December 1653.

Resolved, That General Blake be one of the Generals of the Fleet for the Year ensuing.

Resolved, That Major-General Deane and LieutenantGeneral Monck be the Two other Generals of the Fleet for the Year ensuing.

Ordered, That the Council of State be authorized and required to send unto General Blake a Commission for the present Governing of the Fleet, as they shall think fit.

Supply.

Resolved, That the House do sit To-morrow, only in order to the Business of Money; notwithstanding the former Order, of not sitting on Saturdays and Mondays.
