Friday, the 8th of October, 1652.

Prayers.

Uniting Scotland.

THE Lord Commissioner Lisle reports, from the Committee to whom it was referred to peruse the Declaration of the Parliament of England, in order to the Uniting of Scotland, into one Commonwealth with England; and to consider of something to be offered to the House, for their further Consideration, touching that Business; the Opinion of that Committee; viz.

That it be reported, as the Opinion of this Committee, That a Committee of Parliament, of the Number of Twelve, where of Seven to be of the Quorum, be appointed to meet with the Deputies come from Scotland; and that they do peruse their Commission, and see that it be in pursuance of, and according to, the Declaration of Parliament, intituled, A Declaration of the Parliament of England, in order to the Uniting of Scotland into one Commonwealth with England:

That the said Committee do confer with the Persons so deputed, upon the Matter contained in the said Declaration, in order to the speedy effecting the Ends therein expressed:

That the Bill for Uniting Scotland into one Commonwealth with England be referred to this Committee:

That the said Committee do, from time to time, report to the Parliament, their Proceedings in the Premises, and receive their further Directions touching the same:

That the Council of State be ordered, from time to time, to give their Warrants for issuing forth Monies for defraying such necessary Charges for this Service, as shall be allowed of by the said Committee, and by them certified to the Council.

Resolved, upon the Question, by the Parliament, That a Committee of Parliament, of the Number of Twelve, whereof Seven to be of the Quorum, be appointed to meet with the Deputies come from Scotland; and that they do peruse their Commission, and see that it be in pursuance of, and according to, the Declaration of Parliament, intituled, A Declaration of the Parliament of England in order to the Uniting of Scotland into one Commonwealth with England.

The Lord Commissioner Whitelock did deliver in the said Bill, accordingly.

Resolved, That the Lord Chief Justice St. John be one of the said Committee.

Resolved, That Sir Henry Vane junior be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That Colonel George Fenwick be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That Major Richard Salwey be one of the said Committee.

Resolved, That Sir Arthure Hesilrig be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That the Lord Commissioner Whitelock be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That the Lord Commissioner Lisle be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That the Lord General be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That Major General Harrison be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That Colonel Sidney be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That Colonel Marten be one of that Committee.

Resolved, That Thomas Scott Esquire be one of that Committee.

The Question being propounded, That there shall be an Addition to this Committee;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That this Committee do meet on Tuesday next, at Eight of the Clock in the Morning, in the House commonly called, The House of Lords.

Resolved, That the Bill touching the Uniting of Scotland into one Commonwealth with England, be referred to this Committee.

Ordered, That it be referred to the same Committee, to take into Consideration the Business touching the Judicatories of Scotland; with Power to send for any Papers concerning that Business; and to present their Opinion to the Parliament, what is fit to be done therein.

Propagating the Gospel.

Resolved, That the Committee for Propagating of the Gospel, be revived: And that they sit this Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber; and so de die in diem.

Disabling Delinquents

Mr. Garland reports Amendments to the Bill for disabling Delinquents to bear Office, or to have any Voice, or Vote, in Election of any publick Officer: Which were Twice read.

The Question being put, To agree to the Proviso reported;

It passed with the Negative.

The Question being put, That the Proviso in the Body of the Act, in these Words; viz. "Provided, that this Act, or any thing therein contained, shall not extend to any Person or Persons who hath been, or shall be unduly sequestred; and hath been, or shall be, discharged of the said undue Sequestration;" be omitted out of this Bill;

It passed with the Negative.

The said Amendments, being put to the Question, were assented unto.

The Question being put, That this Bill, so amended, be ingrossed;

It passed with the Negative.

And the said Bill so amended, being put to the Question, passed: And it is Ordered, That the said Act be forthwith printed, and published.

The House, according to former Order, adjourned itself to Tuesday Morning next, Eight of Clock.
