Tuesday, the 10th of October, 1654.

Prayers.

Settling the Government.

THE House, according to former Order, was resolved into a Committee of the whole House, upon the Government.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Hoskins was called to the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Hoskins reports from the said Committee, That the House would be pleased to take into Consideration the Ordinances made by the Lord Protector, and the Council; and to do therein as they shall think fit.

Resolved, That it be referred to a Committee, to take Consideration of, and review all such Ordinances as have been made by the Lord Protector, and the Council, which are not already under Consideration of some Committee of this House; and to state the same, or such of them as they shall see Cause; and to report their Opinion therein to the House, for their further Consideration.

Resolved, That the Committee to whom this Business is referred, be the Committee to whom the Ordinance touching the Chancery is referred.

Resolved, That it be referred to the same Committee, to take into Consideration all such Laws, Ordinances, and Acts, as have been made from the 3d of July 1653, until the 10th of December 1653, which are not already referred to some Committee of this House; and to report their Opinion touching them, to the House: And that Mr. Grove, Mr. Nathan Bacon, Lord Herbert, Alderman Gibbes, Major Long, Alderman Foote, Colonel Sidenham, Mr. Boys, Mr. Foxwist, Mr. Turner, Mr. Goodwin, Mr. Thewell, Mr. Wood of Norfolk, Mr. Hollis, Mr. Norden, Mr. Parker, Sir Henry Vane, Colonel Madrin, Mr. Francis Bacon, Colonel * Birch, Mr. Robinson, Colonel Ingoldsby, Mr. James, Lieutenant of the Tower, Mr. James Ashe, Colonel Stayning, Colonel Fotheringhoy, Colonel Bright, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Wood, of Surry, Captain Stone, Major Beake, Mr. Beale, Colonel Fry, Sir Wm. Boteler, be added to that Committee: And are to meet on Thursday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Duchy Chamber.

Mr. Hoskins reports likewise, The Desire of the same Committee, That the House would give them Leave to sit again on this Business, on Thursday Morning next.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Committee of the whole House, on Thursday Morning next, upon the Government, according to former Order.

Clerk Assistant.

Resolved, That the House doth approve of Ralph Darnall Esquire, to be Clerk Assistant to the Clerk of the Parliament.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, That Sir Robert Pye, a Member of Parliament, have the Leave of this House to go into the Country for a Fortnight.
