Thursday, the 13th of May, 1652.

Prayers.

Privilege.

THE House being informed that the Lord Chief Baron, and Mr. Baron Thorpe, having appointed a Meeting at Serjeants-Inn Yesterday, to consult with the Council for the Commonwealth touching Publick Business, in relation to the Court of Exchequer, and the late Court of Wards; and commanded the Officers of that Court, and, amongst others, Sir Benjamin Rudyard Knight, to attend them in that Service; and having accordingly met; immediately after, as the said Sir Benjamin Rudyard was departing thence, he was arrested upon Mesne Process, and is still detained in Custody.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth declare, That, as this Case hath been represented to the Parliament touching the Arrest of Sir Benjamin Rudyard, the Barons of the Court of the Publick Exchequer ought to grant the Benefit of Privilege to the said Sir Benjamin Rudyard, as if his Attendance had been upon the Court sitting; and to discharge the said Sir Benjamin Rudyard from the said Arrest, accordingly.

Pyme's Debts.

Resolved, That it be referred to a Committee of this House, upon Conference with the Commissioners for Compounding, to state the Matter of fact touching the Debts of Mr. Pyme; and the Lands appointed by the House to go towards the Payment of his Debts; and what hath been received out of those Lands; and how much of the Debts have been paid; and what Debts are yet unsatisfied, which those Lands were appointed to satisfy; and what is fit to be done for the more speedy Payment of those Debts, and clearing the said Lands; and report their Opinion therein to the House: viz. to Colonel Fielder, Alderman Allein, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Strickland, Mr. Carew, Mr. Nevill, Mr. Hay, Colonel Morley, Mr. Gratwick, Colonel Downes; or any Three of them: And this Committee are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Court of Wards; and so de die in diem.

Fines on Estates.

The Question being put, That the Act for ascertaining of arbitrary Fines upon Descent and Alienation of Copyholds of Inheritance, be now read;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, That the Act for ascertaining of arbitrary Fines upon Descent and Alienation of Copyholds of Inheritance, be read on Thursday Morning next, the First Business; nothing to intervene.

Challenges and Duels.

Mr. Garland reports, from the Committee touching the Law, an Act against Challenges, Duels, and all Provocations thereunto: Which was this Day read the First and Second Time; and, upon the Question, committed to the same Committee; and all that come to have Voices: And they are to meet this Afternoon in Mr. Speaker's Chamber; and so de die in diem.
