Prayers.

Abolishing Deans and Chapters.

THE Grand Committee sat upon the Ordinance for Abolishing of Deans, Deans and Chapters, out of the Kingdom of England, Dominion of Wales, and Town of Berwick upon Tweede.

Mr. Annesley in the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Loan by the City.

Sir Harbottle Grimston reports the Proceedings of the Committee appointed to go to the City.

Ordered, That Mr. Vassall, Sir Thomas Soame, Major General Browne, Sir Harbottle Grimston, Mr. Allen, Mr. Ashe, Sir John Potts, Colonel Harvey, do go to the City, to press the speedy Providing of Two thousand Pounds, of the Money subscribed for the present carrying on the Treaty for Peace, and the rest of the Money so soon as they can: And it is more particularly referred to Sir John Potts, to take care of it.

Gerard's, &c. Accompts.

Ordered, That the Accompts of Sir Gilbert Gerard, Sir Henry Vane junior, and Mr. Peck, be heard, the first Business, To-morrow Morning, after Mr. Speaker takes the Chair.

Peck's Claims.

Ordered, That the Committee concerning Mr. Peck be revived: And that Mr. Oxenden, Sir Robert Pye, Sir Samuel Luke, Mr. Walker, Mr. Rigby, Mr. Gott, Mr. Priestly, Mr. Annesley, Colonel Moore, Mr. Strode, Sir Harbottle Grimston, Mr. Pelham, Colonel Copley, Mr. Hungerford, Mr. Luckin, be added to the said Committee.

Letter read.

A Letter from Colonel Rich, dated 5 Septembris 1648, was this Day read.

New England.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for New England be read This-day-sevennight.

Thanks for Sermons.

Ordered, That Mr. Salway and Mr. Bond do give Thanks to Mr. Carrill and Mr. Bond, for the great Pains they took in the Sermons they preached Yesterday at Margaret's, Westminster, before the House of Commons, it being a Day set apart for a Publick Thanksgiving, for many Victories it hath pleased God to give the Parliament's Forces: And that they be desired to print their Sermons: Where they are to have the like Privilege in Printing of them, as others usually have had.

Reformadoes.

Ordered, That Colonel Harvey, Sir Henry Vane senior, Colonel Bosseville, Sir Wm. Massam, Sir Gilbert Gerard, Mr. Gardiner, Colonel Copley, Mr. Swynfen, Mr. Strode, Mr. Bond, Sir Wm. Playter, Mr. Tho. Challener, Colonel Birch, Sir Ralph Ashton, Mr. Dodderidge, Colonel Ven, Mr. Thomas Moore, be added to the Committee for the Reformadoes: And all that will come are to have Voices.

Deale, &c. Castles.

A Letter from the Lord Admiral, from Deale, 5 Septembris 1648, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to send Letters to the Committee of Kent, and Colonel Rich; that they attend the Lord Admiral to consider of the Defects of Deale, Sandowne, and Walmer Castles; and what it will cost to repair the same; and of the Usefulness of the said Castles; and of the Charge of Maintaining of them; and to consider of an Establishment for Maintenance of the said Castles; and to offer any other Expedient for the Good of the State and County; and report the same to the House.

Invalid Soldiers.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to confer with Major Husbands, Whether the maimed and wounded Soldiers want Surgeons; and if they do, to take care forthwith to send Surgeons to them.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Governor of Deale Castle, to take care that such of the Soldiers as are maimed, and be cured, be placed in the Hospital at Greenwich, and other Hospitals in Kent: And it is referred to the Committee of Kent, to take care that the said maimed Soldiers be preferred in the First Place.

Answer to Ld. Admiral.

The House of Commons having read the Letter sent from the Lord Admiral to the Committee at Derby House prepared an Answer thereunto: Which was this Day read; and ordered to be ingrossed; and, being signed by Mr. Speaker, to be sent to the Lord Admiral.

Colchester Delinquents.

A Letter from the Lord General, from the Hieth near Colchester, of 2 Septembris 1648, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five thousand Pounds be forthwith raised out of the Sequestrations and Compositions of the Delinquents in Colchester, for making good what was promised to the Forces engaged in the Siege against Colchester, in lieu of the Pillage of the said Town; And, if those Sequestrations and Compositions fall short of raising the said Sum of Five thousand Pounds; it is Ordered, That the Residue of the said Sum of Five thousand Pounds shall be paid out of the other Sequestrations or Compositions of other Delinquents within the County of Essex: And that the same be paid out of the Money to be received out of either.

Mr. Miles Corbett is to bring in an Ordinance to that Purpose.

Bristoll.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to examine, To whom the Money paid for a Fine for to preserve the City of Bristoll from being plundered upon surrendering thereof, was paid; and How the same was disposed of; and to take an Account of the same; and to make Report thereof to the House.

London Common Council.

Ordered, That Mr. Vassall and Colonel Ven do repair to the Lord Mayor of London; and desire him to call a Common Council To-morrow Morning.

Colchester.

A Letter from Colonel Whalley, and other the Officers of the Army, at Colchester.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to prepare a Letter, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, to desire the General to proceed according to the Law of War, to the Trial of such Persons as were commissioned Officers from the Parliament, and have not laid down their Commission, before they took up Arms against the Parliament; and especially against Lieutenant Colonel Farre.
