Prayers.

Sheriff of Anglesey.

RESOLVED, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of William Bolds Esquire to be Sheriff of the County of Anglesey in North Wales: And that the Commissioners of the Great Seal do issue out a Commission, under the Great Seal, to the said William Bolds, to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Debt to Heywood, &c.

Ordered, That Interest, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Centum per Amum, be allowed and accounted unto Richard Heywood and Joseph Saxton, of Alisbury, for the Sum of Three hundred and Fifty-two Pounds, voluntarily lent by the said Richard Heywood and Joseph Saxton to Colonel Henry Bulstrode, for the Payment whereof an Order passed both Houses, 24 Novembris 1648, by which no Interest was allowed: And that the Committee, appointed for the Pay of the Horse Guards, do state and allow the same, accordingly, upon their Doubling of the Principal.

Proceedings concerning Poyntz, &c.

The humble Petition and Appeal of Joseph Poyntz, alias Morris, and Mary his Wife, Leonard Durby, John Harris, and Isabella Smith, Prisoners in several Prisons, upon a Warrant of the Lords, for pretended Forgery of the Copy of an Act of Parliament, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to examine the Truth of the whole Matter of Fact suggested in their Petition; and to state the whole Matter to the House: Viz. unto Mr. Prynne Mr. Lisle, Mr. Jones, Sir Wm. Lewis, Mr. Boys, Colonel Moore, Mr. Scott, Mr. Lister, Colonel Copley, Mr. Say, Sir John Maynard, Mr. Lane, Mr. Sandes, Mr. John Stephens, Mr. John Ashe, Mr. Walker, Mr. Wheler, Mr. Love, Mr. Lanckton, Mr. Vaughan, Colonel Strode, Sir John Heppesley, Mr. James Nelthrope, Mr. Miles Corbett, Mr. Bacon, Colonel Harvey, Mr. Gurdon, Sir Robert Pye: And are to meet at Two of Clock this Afternoon, in the Queen's Court: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records: And the Care of this Business is more particularly referred to Mr. Prynne and Sir John Maynard.

Sheriff of Denbigh.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Ravenscroft be appointed Sheriff for the County of Denbigh, in the place of Mr. Wynne, formerly chosen.

Message to Lords.

Sir William Lewis carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Names passed, of Sheriffs for divers Counties: The Ordinance for the Five thousand Pounds Gratuity for the Soldiery, upon the Siege of Colchester.

Answer.

Sir Wm. Lewis brings Answer, That, as to the Names of the Sheriffs, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own: To the Ordinance for the Five thousand Pounds Gratuity, they do agree.

Ditto.

Colonel Booth brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Particulars carried by him Yesterday.

Ditto.

Sir Richard Onslowe brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Votes for the Earl of Arundell's Composition: And to the Order for the Interest allowed to Saxton and Heywood, for the Monies they shall double upon Advance of Money for the Horse Guards.

Army, &c.

Mr. Scawen reports the Amendments to the Ordinance for the Bringing in of the Arrears of the Assessments for the Army, and for the disbanding the supernumerary Forces, for the constant future Pay of the Army, and taking off Free Quarter.

The which were twice read: And the Clause, concerning an Assessment to be raised for making Satisfaction unto Inn-keepers and Victualers, was, upon the Question, ordered to be left out: And then the Amendments, upon the Question, were assented unto: And the Ordinance, so amended, upon the Question, passed.

Disbanding Forces.

Resolved, &c. That the Tower Regiment, late under the Command of Colonel Rainborough, be forthwith disbanded.

Resolved, &c. That the Five hundred, in Six Companies, appointed to be raised by the General for the Service of the Isle of Wight, be forthwith disbanded.

Resolved, &c. That the Hundred and Forty Men, raised for the Service of Southampton and Upnor Castle, be forthwith disbanded.

Castles and Garisons.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to a Committee, to consider of all the Castles, Garisons, and Places of Strength, in the Kingdom, What are sit to be kept up; and what to be slighted and made untenable: viz. unto Sir Anthony Irby, Colonel White, Sir Martin Lister, Mr. Fenwicke, Sir Walter Erle, Mr. Strode, Sir Martin Lumbley, Mr. Buller, Sir Roger North, Mr. Blackiston, Mr. Walker, Mr. Nath. Resolved, &c. That the Garison of Ashby de la Zouch be forthwith slighted, and made untenable.

Resolved, &c. That Bolingbrooke Castle, in the County of Lincoln, be forthwith slighted, and made untenable.

Earl of Cambridge.

Resolved, &c. That James Earl of Cambridge be removed from Ashby de la Zouch, and committed close Prisoner, by Order of this House, to Windsor Castle, for High Treason, in bringing in a foreign Army to invade this Kingdom, and levying actual War in the Kingdom: And that it be referred to the Lord General, to take care for his safe bringing him Prisoner, and delivering him safe into the Custody of the Governor of Windsore Castle, to be there kept close Prisoner, according to this Order of the House for his Commitment, accordingly.

Mr. Bence.

Ordered, That Mr. Alexander Bence have Leave, according to his Desire, to come up to Town, to attend the Service of the House.

Assessments.

Ordered, That Members be nominated and employed in the several Counties, to take care for bringing in the Assessments for the Army; viz.

Ordered, That it be recommended to Sir John Curson, to write into Derbysheire; and take care that the Assessments may be speedily brought in.

And have Leave to go into the Country, and to be employed upon this Service.

Assessments.

The Four Citizens and Burgesses of London, to take care for bringing in the Assessments for the City of London.

Ordered, That it be recommended to Mr. Henry Herbert, to write down into the Country, and take care for bringing in the Assessments for the Army.

Ordered, That Sir John Potts, and Sir John Palgrave, and Mr. Miles Corbett, do ride into the Country; and take care for bringing in the Assessments for the Army.

Ordered, That Serjeant Erle and Alderman Atkyn do write to the City of Norwich, to take care for bringing in the Assessments for the Army.

Ordered, That Sir James Harrington and Col. Wayte do write into the County of Rutland; and take care for bringing in the Assessments for the Army in that County.

Ordered, That Mr. Annesley and Colonel Lloyde do take care, and write into South Wales, for bringing in the Assessments for the Army.

Ordered, That Sir Thomas Middleton and Colonel Jones do write into North Wales; and take care for bringing in the Assessments for the Army in those Parts.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to prepare Instructions for those Gentlemen of this House that are appointed to take care of the bringing in the Assessments for the Army.

Army.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to prepare a Letter, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, to convey unto the Lord General the Votes passed this House, for disbanding Supernumeraries, and taking off Free Quarter.

Resolved, &c. That the Supernumeraries of Horse and Foot of the Army, above the old Establishment, be forthwith disbanded.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning next, the House do proceed in Consideration of the Reports touching the Army.

Plimouth.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning next, Sir Richard Onslowe do make Report from the Committee at Derby House, touching Plimouth.

London Assessments.

Ordered, That Power may be given to the Committee for Sequestrations, London, or any Three of them, to call before them all and every the Collectors of the City of London, and Liberties thereof, for any Assessments for the Army under the Command of the Lord Fairfax; and to require them to give in an Accompt of all Monies received and paid by them upon those Assessments; and, if, upon such Accompt, it shall appear they have any Monies in their Hands, to require Payment thereof; and, upon Resusal of Payment, to levy the Sums, so in their Hands, and unpaid, by way of Sequestration, according to the Ordinance, upon their Goods and Estate: And, in case any Person shall refuse to give Account, that they may have Power to commit him, or them, so refusing, to Prison, until he or they shall conform, accordingly.

Surrey Assessment.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Brereton Baronet, Mr. Elliott, and Mr. Thomas Thorold, be added to the Committee for the County of Surrey, for collecting the Assessments for the Lord Fairfax his Army.

Bedford Army.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Boteler Knight, James Beverley, John Harvey, and Clement Armiger, Esquires, Robert Beverley, and John Eaclon, be added to the Committee of the Army for the County of Bedford.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of Sir Edward Seabright Knight and Baronet to be Sheriff of the County of Stafford: And that the Commissioners for the Great Seal of England do issue out to him a Commission to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.
