Prayers.

Soldiers Widows, &c.

A BILL for relief of the Widows and Children of Soldiers slain in the Service of the Parliament in Scotland and Ireland, and of Sick, maimed, and wounded Soldiers, was this Day read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That this Bill be committed to Mr. Holland, Mr. Salwey, Sir John Danvers, Alderman Allen, Lieutenant General Fleetwood, Mr. Bond, Mr. Ash, Colonel Downes, Mr. * Darley, Mr. Hayes, Sir Wm. Allenson, Mr. West, Mr. Maine, Mr. Dormer, Alderman Pennington, Alderman Atkins, Mr. Garland, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Dove, Sir John Hippisly, Mr. Hodges, Sir James Harrington, Mr. Lechmere, Sir Gilbert Pickering, Sir Arthure Hesilrig, Mr. Nevill, Colonel Morley, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Smyth, Mr. Weston, Mr. Whittacre, Sir John Bourchier, Colonel Popham, Mr. Rawley, Mr. Challoner; or any Five of them: And this Committee is to meet at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber; and so de die in diem: And all that come to have Voices: With Power to this Committee to consider of the Business of the Hospitals: and how the Revenues thereof are employed; and the best way for the Improvement thereof; and how far the same way be employed to the Relief of sick and maimed Soldiers.

And the more particular Care hereof is referred to Mr. Holland.

Serjeant at Arms.

Ordered, That Serjeant Middleton do attend the Service of the Parliament, during the time of the Sickness of Serjeant Birkhead.

Briefs of Acts, &c.

Resolved, upon the Question, and the Parliament doth declare, That it is the Order of this House, That no Act ought to be presented to this House, without a Brief thereof be given to Mr. Speaker: And that Mr. Speaker ought not to open any Bill, nor to command the same to be read, unless a Brief thereof be first delivered unto him: And that the said Order be, from henceforth, duly and exactly observed accordingly.

Grant to Bennett.

Resolved, That the Commissioners for Compounding be authorized and required to issue Warrant to the Treasurers of Haberdashers Hall, to pay unto Thomasine Bennett Widow, late Wife of Captain William Bennett, the Sum of Two hundred Pounds, out of such Discovery as the shall make to the said Committee, as the Money shall be brought in, in Satisfaction and Discharge of the Money given by Order of Parliament, of the Two-and-twentieth of June last; she, the said Thomasine Bennett, paying to each of the Children of the said Captain William Bennett, Fifty Pounds apiece, according to that Order: And the Acquittance and Acquittances of the said Thomasine Bennett shall be a sufficient Discharge unto the said Treasurers for the same.

Cromwell's Widow.

The humble Petition of Anne Cromwell, Adminstratrix of the Goods and Chattels of Colonel Oliver Cromwell, deceased, was this Day read.

Portugall.

Resolved, That the Report be now made concerning the Portugall Business.

Mr. Scott reports from the Council of State, The Paper given in from the Embiado of Portugall.

Which was this Day read.

Resolved, That this Debate be adjourned until Tuesday Morning next, the first Business.

Whitehall.

Mr. Garland reports from the Committee appointed to survey Whitehall, Their Proceedings in that Business.

Ordered, That this Report be re-committed; and be brought in on Wednesday next, when Mr. Speaker takes the Chair.

Irish Affairs.

A Letter from the Commissioners for the Parliament in Ireland, from Kilkenny, of the Nineteenth Day of April 1651; with a Letter inclosed, of the Earl of Clanrickard; were this Day read.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to give Order for stating the Accompts of the Arrears due to Colonel Shilborne; and that they do consider how a Sum of Money, not exceeding Five hundred Pounds, may be paid to the Widow of the said Colonel Shilborne, for the Relief of his Wife and Children, out of the Remainder of the Money for the Compositions of North Wales; and to issue their Warrant to the Treasurers at War, for Payment thereof, accordingly.

Resolved, That these Letters be referred to the Council of State.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to take care, and give effectual Order, That the Twenty thousand Pounds a Month, appointed for the Forces in Ireland, be duly sent over.

Resolved, That the Debate upon the Qualifications for Ireland be resumed on Thursday Morning next, the first Business.

The House, according to former Order, adjourned itself until Tuesday Morning next, Eight of Clock.
