Prayers.
Ministers Maintenance.
A COMMISSION, in pursuance of the Act for providing Maintenance for preaching Ministers, and other pious Uses, was this Day read; and, with some Amendments at the Table, was, upon the Question, passed.
Resolved, That the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England be authorized and required to issue several Commissions in this Form, under the said Great Seal, into the several Counties within England and Wales.
Ordered, That the Members of this House be required to present, unto the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal, the Names of Persons to be Commissioners in this Commission for the respective Counties for which they serve: And that they do the same by This-day-sevennight: And, in case that Names be not presented for any County, that then the Commissions be issued to those Persons who are named Commissioners for that County in the last Act for the last monthly Assessment.
Propagating the Gospel.
Mr. Say reports from the Committee, Amendments to the Bill for the better Propagation and Preaching of the Gospel, together with the Names of Commissioners and Ministers to be inserted into the Act: Which were twice read.
Ordered, That Colonel Harrison, Colonel Philip Jones, Colonel John Jones, Sir John Trevor, and Mr. Henry Herbert, be added to the Commissioners in the said Act.
And the Amendments, being put to the Question, passed; and the Bill ordered to be ingrossed, and brought in This-day-sevennight.
Ordered, That the Committee to whom the Petition for the County of Wiltes was referred, do bring in the like Bill for Advancement of the Gospel in the County of Wiltes, This-day-sevennight.
Bill for the Preaching of the Gospel in the City of Bristoll, and Maintenance of Ministers there, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to Sir Wm. Allenson, Mr. Aldworth, Mr. Dove, Colonel Ven, Alderman Allen, Mr. Hodges, Sir John Bourchier, Colonel Harrison, Colonel Jones, Mr. Leman, Colonel Purefoy, Mr. Snelling, Mr. Robert Goodwyn, Colonel Fielder, Sir Arthur Hesilrige, Mr. Lister, Mr. Trenchard, Colonel Bossevile, Mr. Corbett, Mr. Richard Darley, Mr. Scott; or any Five of them: And this Committee is to meet in the Exchequer Chamber, at Two of the Clock this Afternoon.
Resolved, That Sir Arthur Hesilrige do bring in a Bill for settling Ministers in the Northern Counties, This-day sevennight, the first Business.
Resolved, That Mr. Snelling do bring in a Bill for the Preaching of the Gospel, and the Maintenance of preaching Ministers, in Southwark, on This-day-sevennight.
Invalid Soldiers, &c.
Ordered, That the humble Petition of Three thousand maimed Soldiers, and Widows whose Husbands were slain in the Parliament's Service, and the Certificate annexed, be referred to the Committee of the Army; to consider thereof; and, upon the whole Business, report their Opinion to the House.
Payment into Weavers Hall.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Goldsmiths Hall, to consider of the Payment of the Five thousand Pounds, Residue of the Eleven thousand Pounds, which was to be paid in to Weavers Hall, directed by an Order of the Twenty-fifth of January instant to be paid, in Course, from the Time the said Eleven thousand Pounds was ordered to be paid in to Weavers Hall; and to state the Matter of Fact to the House.
Incest and Adultery.
Colonel Fielder reports Amendments to the Act for suppressing Incest, Adultery, and Fornication: Which were this Day read the First time.
Resolved, That the Amendment, in these Words, in the First Page, in the One-and-twentieth Line, after the Word "Felony;" viz. "without Benefit of Clergy;" be added in the said Act.
Ordered, That the said Act be recommitted to the same Committee: And that they meet To-morrow in the Afternoon; and report the same on Friday, next after the Bill for settling Ministers in the Northern Counties.
Pocket Arms.
Sir Henry Mildmay reports from the Council of State, That there hath been Two of the Officers of this Council slain, while they were about the Execution of a Warrant of this Council, for the Apprehension of a Malefactor, and one other wounded; and all these by a Dagger: And that the Council, making Inquiry thereinto, do find the Use of Daggers and Pocket Pistols to grow very common, and the Danger thereby too great:- To desire the House to consider of a Way for to prevent that Mischief, by forbidding the Making, or the Use, of Daggers, Stillettoes, or Pocket Pistols: That the Parliament be desired, in order to their own Safety, to take into their Consideration the Passing of the Two Bills about putting Malignants out of this Town, and confining Malignants; and That also for the Relief of oppressed Tenants against their Landlords.
Ordered, That an Act be brought in, for suppressing the Making or Wearing of Pocket Daggers or Pistols, Stillettoes, or other Weapons of that Nature.
Ordered, That Sir Henry Mildmay and Mr. Love do bring in an Act accordingly.
