Prayers.

Assessment.

MR. Pury reports Amendments to the Act for the Assessment of the Ninety thousand Pounds per mensem, for the Army: Which were this Day read the First and Second Time; and, with some Alterations at the Table upon the Question, assented unto.

Navy Supply.

Sir Henry Vane junior reports from the Council of State, That Ten thousand Pounds of the Twenty thousand Pounds Fine, set upon the Counties of South Wales, for their Delinquency, may be made use of for the present setting-forth of the Fleet.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Army do give Order forthwith for the receiving the Sum of Ten thousand Pounds, Part of the Twenty thousand Pounds Fine set upon the Counties of South Wales, for their Delinquency; which is informed to be now ready at Bristoll, to be returned up to London, by Bills of Exchange: And, it being resolved by this House, That the said Ten thousand Pounds shall be employed for the present setting of the Fleet to Sea, the Committee of the Army are therefore required and authorized to issue their Warrants to the Treasurers at Wars, for the immediate Payment of the said Sum of Ten thousand Pounds to Sir Henry Vane junior, Knight, Treasurer of the Navy, for the Use of the Navy, as aforesaid And . . . . the Committee of the Navy be required to repay the same, out of the first Monies that shall be raised of the Thirty thousand Pounds appointed to be paid for the present setting forth of the Navy, out of the Monies to be raised by Sale of the late King's Goods.

Army.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Army be required to provide Two thousand Cassocks and Breeches, and other Two thousand Cassocks, to be disposed of amongst the Foot Soldiers, as the General shall think sit.

Judicial Proceedings.

Sir John Danvers reports from the Council of State, That the Report of the Proceedings of the High Court of Justice be brought in.

Ordered, That the Proceedings of the said High Court of Justice be brought in to this House on Monday-come-sevennight.

Correspondence with Hamborowe.

Mr. Martyn reports from the Council of State, Letters to be sent to the State of Hamborowe, on the Behalf of the Merchants.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker be, and is hereby, impowered and authorized to sign such Letters as are, or shall be prepared by the Council of State, to be sent to the State of Hamborough, on the Behalf of the Merchants.

Herotheus Petition.

The humble Petition of Herotheus, of the Family called Abbat Archimandrita of Cephalonia, was this Day read.

Assessments.

The humble Petition of the Inhabitants of the Borough of Southwarke was this Day read; with a Case thereunto annexed, intituled, "The Case of the Borough of Southwarke, as it stands with the County of Surrey, in reference to Assessments for the Army, in Ireland."

Resolved, &c. That of the Two thousand Twenty-one Pounds Two Shillings, charged on the County of Surrey, towards the Assessment of the Ninety thousand Pounds, for the first Three Months, there shall be only one Eighth Part set on the Borough of Southwarke: And that One Eighth Part only of the Two thousand Three hundred Pounds charged on the County of Surrey, for the last Three Months, shall be charged on the said Borough of Southwarke.

Ordered, That the several Counties of Mountgomery, Denbigh, Carnarvan, Flynt, Anglesey, and Merioneth, be set for the last Three Months in the Assessment for the Army, according to the Proportions following; viz. Mountgomery, Three hundred Eighty Pounds; Denbigh, Three hundred Fifty Pounds; Carnarvon, Two hundred Sixty Pounds; Flint, One hundred Seventy-four Pounds Ten Shillings; Anglesey, One hundred Seventy-four Pounds Ten Shillings; Merioneth, One hundred Sixty Pounds.

Ordered, That the several Counties, Cities, and Places, that were charged severally in the Assessment for the first Three Months, shall be divided in the Assessment for the last Three Months; and charged severally, according to the Proportions formerly charged on them respectively.

Ordered, That it be referred back to the Committee of the Army, to equal the Proportions in this Act, according to the Votes aforesaid.

Ordered, That the like Proviso for the Town of Lynn in Norfolk, be added to this Act, as to the first Three Months in this Act, as was in the last Ordinance for the Assessment of the Sixty thousand Pounds per Month.

The Question being propounded, That a Proviso be added to the said Act for raising Ninety thousand Pounds per Mensem for the Army, for Discharge of the Doctors of the Civil Law from being assessed for their Chambers in Doctors Commons;

It passed with the Negative.

The Question being propounded, That a Proviso be added to the Act for raising Ninety thousand Pounds per Mensem for the Army, That Gresham College be discharged of Assessments;

It passed with the Negative.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Army do peruse the said Act, and the several Votes and Alterations aforesaid; and prepare the same sit to be ingrossed: And that the same be ingrossed accordingly.

Deans and Chapters Lands.

Ordered, That the Committee for Deans and Chapters Lands do meet To-morrow at Eight of the Clock in the Morning, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Goldsmiths Hall Committee.

Ordered, That the Committee of Goldsmiths Hall do amend the Votes fitted to be printed, by adding the Words "except Papists in Arms:" And so the former Votes to be printed, that Notice may be taken of the Times limited in the said Vote.

Candles.

The Question being put, That Candles be brought in;

It passed in the Affirmative.

General Cromwell.

Sir William Armyn reports from the Council of State, a Commander in Chief to go into Ireland.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of Lieutenant General Cromwell to be Commander in Chief of all the Forces sent into Ireland.

Ld. Fairefax.

Resolved, &c. That Thomas Lord Fairefax be General of all the Forces of the Parliament both in England and Ireland.

Irish Army.

Ordered, That the further Consideration of the Matter touching the Forces already in Ireland, and those that are now to be sent thither, be referred back to the Council of State; to consider thereof; and to report their Opinions therein to the House.

Ld. Mayor refuses to proclaim the Abolition of Monarchy.

Alderman Atkins reports the Lord Mayor's Answer, touching proclaiming the Act for abolishing the Kingly Office; That he desires to be excused therein.

The Question being propounded, That the Lord Mayor of the City of London be summoned, to appear at the Bar of this House, on Monday next, to answer his Contempt, in not yielding Obedience to the Order of this House; and the Serjeant at Arms attending the House is to give this Summons, and to carry him this Order;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being now put;

It was Resolved, &c.
