Army.

RESOLVED, &c. That the Horse, under the Command of Colonel Martyn, be made up a full Regiment: And that it be referred to the General, How it shall be done: And that it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to consider, How they may be brought in to the Establishment.

Hilary Term.

Mr. Love reports An Act for further Adjournment of Part of Hilary Term, from Crastino Purificationis until Octa. Purificationis.

Which was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to Sir Thomas Widdrington, Mr. Whitlock, Mr. Love, Serjeant Thorpe, to withdraw presently; and bring it in forthwith.

Ordered, That Colonel Bingham be admitted.

Ordered, That Mr. Edward Ashe be admitted.

Ordered, That Mr. Armyne be admitted.

Navy.

Mr. Miles Corbett reports from the Committee of the Navy, a List of the Ships, and Number of Men, for the next Summer's Guard: And that, in regard the revolted Ships are now at Sea.

That it is the Opinion of the Lord Admiral, and That Committee, That the House be moved, that Eight hundred Men may be added, as supernumerary, For the Manning of the said Ships: And that Power may be given for the Taking up of Thirty Merchant Ships, to be manned with Two thousand Men, Fifteen of them to be forthwith set forth.

Resolved, &c. That the said Ships, and Number of Men, contained in the List now reported, do go forth for this Summer Fleet.

Ordered, That there be Eight hundred Seamen more added to the former Number for manning the said Ships: And that it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to make Provision accordingly.

Ordered, That Thirty Merchant Ships, to be manned with Two thousand Men, be taken up, to be added to the Ships in the List reported for the Summer Fleet.

Ordered, That Fifteen of those Thirty Merchant Ships, manned with a Thousand Men, be forthwith sent to Sea.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of Captain Robert Hackewell to be Commander of the Ship the Bonadventure.

Navy Supply.

Mr. Miles Corbett reports an Act for the Three hundred Pounds per Week, formerly charged on the Receipts of the Excise and new Impost, for Maintenance of the Garisons of the Isle of Ely and Croyland, to be paid to the Use of the Navy, for Two Years, from the Days and Times therein mentioned.

Which Act was read; and, upon the Question passed.

Whereas, by Ordinance of Parliament, of the Twelfth of August 1645, Three hundred Pounds per Week was charged on the Receipts of the Excise and new Impost, for Maintenance of the Garisons of the Isle of Ely and Croyland; viz. Two hundred and Fifty Pounds per Week for the Isle of Ely, and Fifty Pounds per Week for Croyland; to continue till further Order of both Houses of Parliament: And whereas other Provision hath since been made for the said Garison of the Isle of Ely, from the First of November 1647, and for the said Garison of Croyland, from the Twenty-fourth of August 1647; and the Time when the said Three hundred Pounds per Week doth determine, is not yet declared: And whereas the present Necessities of the Navy are so pressing, that the same requires a speedy Supply of Monies, without which those Affairs cannot be carried on: Be it therefore Enacted and Declared, by the Commons, assembled in Parliament; and be it, by Authority of Parliament, Enacted, That the said Three hundred Pounds per Week, formerly payable to the said Garisons, shall henceforth be paid, and wholly employed, to and for the Use of the Navy, and not otherwise; and shall continue for the Space of Two Years, from the several Day and Times afore-named, that other Provision hath been made for the said several Garisons as aforesaid: And the Commissioners of Excise are hereby authorized and required to pay weekly the said Sum of Three hundred Pounds unto Sir Henry Vane Knight, Treasurer of the Navy, for the Use of the Navy, and not otherwise; whose Receipt or Receipts shall be, unto the said Commissioners of Excise, their full and sufficient Discharge.

Convoys.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to take care that there be forthwith some Ships sent for a Convoy for the Fishery and Colliery in the Northern Coasts.

Westminster, &c. Militia.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to bring in several Ordinances for settling the several Militia, of Westminster, Southwarke, and the Hamlets, with Names of Persons to be named therein: Viz. unto Mr. Scott, Mr. Whittacre, Mr. Love, Mr. Snelling, Sir John Danvers, Mr. Thompson, Alderman Pennington, Mr. Dove, Alderman Wilson, Colonel Harvey, Colonel Venn, Sir James Harrington, Mr. Allen; or any Three of them: And are to meet in the Queen's Court: And the special Care hereof is recommended to Mr. Love, and Mr. Dove.

Army.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve that the Regiment under the Command of Colonel Philip Jones, consisting of Nine Companies, in South Wales, be continued: And that the said Regiment have Assignation, with the rest of the Army, out of the Assessments appointed for that Purpose.

Embassy from Holland.

Ordered, That To-morrow be appointed for Mr. Challoner to report the Answer to be given to the States Ambassadors, the first Business.

Hilary Term.

Mr. Love reports the Amendments to the Act for further Adjournment of Part of this present Hilary Term:

Which was read, with the Amendments; and, upon the Question, passed.

Ordered, That this Act be forthwith printed and published.

Settling the Government.

Resolved, &c. That this House shall, in the first place, take into Consideration and Debate the House of Lords, in order to the Business of this Day, for the Settlement of the Government of the Kingdom.

Ordered, That this Debate be taken up in the House To-morrow, the first Business; nothing to intervene.

Hilary Term.

Some Amendments offered to an Act for further Adjournment of Part of Hilary Term, from Crastino Purificationis until Octa. Purificationis: Which were thrice read.

The Question being propounded for passing the said Act so amended;

The House was divided.

So the Question passed with the Affirmative.

Norwich City Officers.

The humble Petition of the Mayor, Sheriffs, Aldermen, and Common Council of the City of Norwich, in Common Council assembled, was this Day read.

Ordered, That Mr. Miles Corbett and Alderman Atkins do bring in an Ordinance to the Purpose in the said Petition.

Publick Offices.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to prepare, and bring in, an Ordinance concerning preventing the Election of any Persons who have been disaffected to the Parliament, or adhered to the King, in the First or Second War, to any Place or Office of Trust within this Kingdom; and for removing such Persons as are already chosen, or do exercise any such Place or Office, from the Execution thereof: And this Committee are to consider of several Qualifications, declared by this House, touching that Business: Viz. unto Mr. Say, Mr. Gurdon, Lieutenant General Cromwell, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Martyn, Mr. Scott, Sir Henry Mildmay, Mr. Humphry Edwards, Mr. Millington, Mr. Dove, Mr. Gratwick, Sir John Harrington, Colonel Temple, Mr. Garland, Mr. Love; or any Five of them.

Petition from Kent.

The House being informed, that there were divers Gentlemen of Kent at the Door:

They were called in: And, being come to the Bar, spake this:

Mr. Speaker, Here is the humble Petition of divers well-affected Persons in the County of Kent.

What it hath pleased God hath been acted since the Subscribing of this Petition, the Petitioners could not take Notice of in the Petition; but the Petitioners resolve, in what you have lately acted, to stick to you with their Lives and Fortunes.

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Committee to whom the Consideration of Petitions of like nature are referred.

Ordered, That the said Committee for Petitions do speedily make Report of this and other Petitions to them formerly referred.

Colonel Harrison, Lord Grey, Colonel Sidenham, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Dixwell, Lord Mounson, Sir Michael Livesey, Colonel Walton, be added to that Committee: And they are to meet de die in diem.

The Petitioners being again called in; Mr. Speaker gave them this Answer;

Gentlemen, You of the County of Kent; The House has read your Petition: And that Part of it which remains to be done, they have referred to a Committee, to be taken into speedy Consideration: This House doth likewise take Notice of the good Affections of that County: I must needs say, they have always shewed themselves very faithful and well-affected to this House: And, in particular, do take Notice of your good Affections and Resolutions in this Petition: And have commanded me to give you hearty Thanks: And I do, in the Name of this House, give you their hearty Thanks.

Mr. Challoner reports an Answer to be given to the States Ambassadors: Which was read, and committed to the same Committee: And Sir Henry Vane junior, Mr. Marten, Mr. Scott, and Colonel Purefoy, are added to that Committee.

Tryal of Delinquents.

Mr. Garland reports the Names of Persons to be named in the Act for erecting an High Court of Justice for Tryal of Delinquents,

The Names being read, upon the Question were agreed unto.

Ordered, That Fifteen or more of the said Persons shall make a Court to sit and act, &c.: And that the Ordinance be ingrossed, and brought in To-morrow Morning.

Scotch Affairs.

Lieutenant General Cromwell reports an Answer to be sent to the Papers sent to the House by the Scotts Commissioners.

Ordered, That it be read on Monday Morning next.
