Prayers.

Ecclesiastical Promotions.

ORDERED, That Mr. Luke Hodges, Mr. Dove, Mr. Brewster, Mr. John Corbet, Mr. Sallaway, Mr. Bosvile, be added to the Committee to whom the Act directing a Way for settling and disposing of Ecclesiastical Promotions, that are in the Gift of the Commonwealth, is referred: And that the Quorum of that Committee be reduced to any Five.

Westminster College.

Ordered, That Sir Gregory Norton, and Mr. Humphrey Edwards, be added to the Committee for the College of Westminster.

Plundered Ministers.

Ordered, That Mr. Burwell, Colonel Stapeley, Mr. Thomas Challenor, and Colonel Charles Fleetwood, be added to the Committee of plundered Ministers.

Merchants Petition.

The House being informed, that there were divers Merchants at the Door;

They were ordered to be called in: They presented a Petition.

Which (after the Petitioners were withdrawn) was read; and was intituled, "The humble Petition of divers Merchants, and Merchant Strangers, and others."

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Consideration of a Committee: Viz. unto Sir Hen. Vane senior, Sir Hen. Vane junior, Colonel Thompson, Colonel Venn, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Lechmere, Mr. Frye, Mr. Darley, Colonel Harvey, Mr. Rigby, Mr. Myles Corbett, Mr. Serjeant Thorpe, Colonel Walton, Alderman Wilson, Mr. Garland, Sir Wm. Strickland, Mr. Millington, Mr. Hum. Edwards, Mr. Attorney General, Mr. Salway junior, Mr. Edward Ashe, Colonel Marten, Mr. Allen, Sir Gregory Norton, Sir James Harrington, Mr. Leman, Sir Henry Myldmay; or any Five of them: And this Committee are to send for Persons, Papers, Records; and to report their Opinion to the House: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber. The Care hereof is commended to Mr. Stephens.

Bishops Lands.

Colonel Harvey reports from the Committee for removing Obstructions in the Sale of Bishops Lands.

Resolved, &c. That Sir John Wollaston Knight, Alderman Avery, Alderman Pack, Tho. Nowell, John Bellamy, Edward Hooker, Tho. Arnold, Richard Glyd, Wm. Hobson, John Babington, Lawrence Bromfeild, Alexander Jones, Stephen Estwick, Robert Mead, and James Storey, the Trustees for the Sale of the Lands of Archbishops and Bishops, who constantly attend the said Service, shall be allowed for their Salary Three-pence in the Pound, of all such Monies as are or shall be raised by the Sale of all such of the said Lands, which are or shall be by them conveyed to Purchasers; discounting out of the same the Two thousand Pounds already paid unto them.

The Question being propounded, That Eighty Pounds per Annum, in Possession or Reversion, of the Lands of the Archbishops and Bishops, be settled upon, and conveyed to each of the aforesaid Fifteen Trustees, as is already settled upon, and conveyed to, the Contractors for the aforesaid Lands;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That the Three-pence in the Pound, to be paid to the said Trustees for Sale of the Lands of Archbishops and Bishops, for their Salary, be charged upon the Treasury of that Receipt: And that the Treasurers or Treasurer are hereby required to pay the same, out of the Receipts of that Treasury, as the Money shall come in, accordingly: And the Acquittance and Acquittances of the said Trustees, or their Assigns, shall be a sufficient Discharge to the said Treasurers for the same.

Resolved, &c. That One Peny out of every Twenty Shillings received, or defalked upon Bill, be allowed the Treasurer or Treasurers for Sale of Bishops Lands, for their Salary, upon all Money paid, or Defalkations made upon Bills; the said Allowance to commence from the Twentieth of December 1646.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Obstructions, for Sale of Bishops Lands, to give Allowance to the Clerks and Tellers of that Treasury, not exceeding the Sum of Two hundred Pounds.

Late King's Children.

A Letter from the Lady Elizabeth was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Earl of Northumberland do deliver over the Duke of Gloucester, and the Lady Elizabeth, to the Custody and Tuition of the Countess of Leicester, upon the Allowance of Three thousand Pounds per Annum, for their Maintenance and Education, to be paid to the said Countess, until the Parliament shall take further Order.

Ordered, That my Lord Lisle do acquaint both the Earl of Northumberland, and the Countess of Leicester, with this Order.

Ordered, That the Three thousand Pounds per Annum for the Duke of Gloucester, and the Lady Elizabeth, shall begin and commence from the time the former Allowance to the Earl of Northumberland, for the said Duke and Lady, was taken off: And that the Committee of Revenue do pay unto the Earl of Northumberland, from that time, until the said Duke and Lady shall be delivered over by him to the Countess of Leicester, after that Proportion of Three thousand Pounds per Annum.

Ascham and Warcuppe.

The humble Petition of Anthony Ascham and Edmond Warcuppe Gentlemen, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Haberdashers Hall, to take such Discovery as the Petitioners shall make appear to be concealed from the State in Under Compositions, or otherwise: And that, out of such Discovery, the said Committee are authorized and required to pay Two hundred Pounds to Mr. Anthony Ascham, and One hundred and Fifty Pounds to Mr. Edmund Warcupp, for the Reward of their Service, in attending the Person of the Duke of York, by Order of Parliament.

Loan from the City.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Revenue, to examine the Truth of the Business, touching the Borrowing of Fourteen thousand Pounds of the City, for the Treaty in the Isle of Wight; and to take Course, by sending to the City, for the Paying in of the Remainder of the said Monies, not yet paid, upon the Security already given; and examine unto whom, and how much, the Monies are owing, in relation to the said Treaty; and report the whole State of the Business to the House.

Late King's Property.

Commissary General Ireton reports from the Committee * * * *.

Ordered, That Commissary General Ireton and Colonel Charles Fleetwood be added to the Committee for the Sale of the Lands of the late King, &c.: And that they do take especial Care of that Act.
