Prayers.

Preachers thanked.

ORDERED, That Mr. Gourdon, Mr. Dove, and Mr. Hoyle, do, from this House, give Thanks to Mr. Marshall, Mr. Green, and Mr. Carrill, for the great Pains they took in their Sermons, preached Yesterday at Margarett's, Westminster, before the House of Commons; it being a Day set apart for a solemn Humiliation to God Almighty, for averting his Judgments by immoderate Rain, &c.: And that they be desired to print their Sermons: Wherein they are to have the like Privilege in Printing of their Sermons, as others in the like kind usually have had.

Preacher appointed.

Ordered, That Mr. Bond be desired to pray before the Commons, the next Fast Day.

Mr. Rose is to desire him.

Southampton Garison.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, and Committee of the Stores, to see how the Provisions, formerly ordered to the Garisons of Southampton, may be made for the said Garison.

Forces in Wales.

An Ordinance for raising some Forces for Defence of the Counties of Carnarcon, Merioneth, Denbigh, Mountgomery, and Flint, and that the said Five Counties be associated, and for raising Money to maintain the said Forces; was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Col. Mitton's Order.

Ordered, That these Words be added to Colonel Mitton's Order of 19 Aprilis 1648; viz. "out of the Fines or Estates of such Delinquents not formerly discovered, or compounded with, as he shall discover to the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, or to the Committees of Sequestrations in the Country."

Persons sent for.

Ordered, That John De Greate, John James, Leonard Leonard, and P. Pagan, Captain Oliver Vaughan, Edward Bulkley, be sent for in Custody, as Delinquents, by the Serjeant at Arms that attends this House.

Southampton Committee.

Ordered, That Robert Wallopp Esquire, Sir Henry Mildmay, Colonel Whitehead, Colonel Norton, John Button, John Bulkley, John Lisle, Robert Reynolds, Esquires, Peter Legay, now Mayor of Southampton, Edward Hoper, George Gollop, Richard St. Barbe, Edward Exton, Peter Murford, Esquires, Richard Mayor, Francis Rivett, Esquires, Daniell Hercent, John Hildesley, Gentlemen, Robert Wroth, Captain George Embry, Captain Joseph Delamott, Mr. Jacob Legay, be a Committee for the Town and County of Southampton, for the Execution of all Ordinances of Parliament in the said Town and County.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Wiltes Militia.

Mr. Dove reports Amendments to the Ordinance of the Militia of the County of Wiltes: Which Amendments were twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

A Proviso was tendered to the said Ordinance for the Militia of the County of Wiltes; and twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto; and ordered to be Part of the said Ordinance.

The Question being propounded, That Edward Stokes be of the Committee of the Militia for the County of Wiltes:

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So that the Question passed with the Negative.

Church Government.

The Title of the Ordinance for Church Government was this Day read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

Mr. Dodderidge carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Ordinance for settling the Presbyterian Government in England and Ireland.

Mr. Dodderidge brings Answer, That the Lords will take the same into their speedy Consideration; and send Answer thereunto by Messengers of their own.

Wiltes Militia.

The Ordinance for settling the Militia for the County of Wiltes, soamended, being put to the Question. passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Sir John Danvers is to carry it to the Lords.

Deans and Chapters.

Ordered, That this Day Sevennight, the Ordinance concerning Deans and Chapters be read.

Ausdale's Accompt.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Commissioners of the Navy, forthwith to state the Accompt of James Ausdale; and to certify what is due to him forthwith.

Ordered, That Mr. Green report the Business of the Navy, the first Business, To-morrow Morning.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Heath and Dr. Aylett;

That the Lords, at the next Conference, desire to offer something concerning the Obstructions of the Business between both Houses. The Lords have sent you a Petition of the Lord Mayor, Aldermen, and Commons, of the City of London, touching the Weavers. The Lords have appointed Nine Lords; whereof Three to be of the Quorum; and to meet in the Lord Keeper's Lodgings, at Three of Clock, on Saturday in the Afternoon; and desire this House to appoint a proportionable Number to meet with them, of the Commons. The Lords recommend unto you the Petition of Wm. Ryley, Clerk of the Records in the Tower: And also the Petition of Anthony Morgan: Which the Lords recommend unto you.

Obstructions of Business between the Houses.

The Question being propounded, to agree, That, at the next Conserence the Lords do offer some Things concerning the Obstructions of the Business between both Houses;

So that the Question passed with the Negative.

Ordered, That a Message be sent to the Lords, to shew the Lords, That this House doth desire, That a good Correspondence may be kept between the Two Houses; but, without Breach of the Orders of the House, they could not agree to the Message touching offering some Things concerning the Obstructions of the Business between both Houses; the same being in such general Terms.

Mr. Ellys to carry the said Message to the Lords.

Ordered, That Mr. Ellis do impart to the Lords, at the Conference, the Reasons why they could not meet at the Time appointed, touching Mr. Halliburton and Major Rolfe; and desire the Lords to appoint another Time for the said Conference; and that this House will be willing at that Conference to hear what shall be proposed by their Lordships.

Clerk of Tower Records.

The humble Petition of Wm. Ryley, Clerk of the Records in the Tower.

Ordered, That the Sum of Two hundred Pounds be advanced for the present Subsistence of Wm. Ryley, Clerk of the Records in the Tower; and be paid to him, or his Assigns, out of such Delinquents Estates as he shall discover to the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, that hath not compounded, or not paid in his Fifth and Twentieth Part; for the Service of the said Wm. Ryley to the Parliament, in keeping the Records in the Tower.

Ordered, That the Sum of Fifty Pounds more be advanced upon the Estate of such Delinquent as shall be discovered by Wm. Ryley, Clerk of the Records in the Tower, to the Committee of Haberdashers Hall, for repairing the Books of Records and Reportories, and mending the Windows of the Rooms where the Records lie.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Tower, to consider of the House formerly taken from the Record Office; and to consider of a Way how the same may be restored, and annexed, again to the said Office.

Morgan's Indemnity.

An Ordinance, sent from the Lords, for indemnifying Anthony Morgan Esquire, for any thing done by him in relation to these Wars, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, committed to the Members of this House that are at the Committee at Derby House, or any Three of them; with Power to send for Persons, Witnesses, Papers, Records.

And the said Ordinance is more particularly recommended to the Care of Sir John Trevor.

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has taken their Lordships Message into Consideration; and will send Answer thereunto by Messengers of their own.

Payment of Mitton.

BE it Ordered and Ordained, and it is hereby Ordered and Ordained, by the Lords and Commons, in Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, That the Sum of Five thousand Pounds be forthwith advanced and paid to Colonel Thomas Mitton, upon Account, out of such Delinquents Fines, or Estates, not formerly discovered, or compounded with, as he shall discover to the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, or to the Committees of Sequestrations in the Countries where their Estates lie: Out of whose Fines and Estates the said Committees, and every of them respectively, are hereby ordered to pay the said Sum of Five thousand Pounds to the said Colonel Thomas Mitton, or his Assigns, accordingly: Whose Receipt or Receipts for the same shall be a sufficient Warrant and Discharge to the said Committees, and every of them, respectively; and to every such Person or Persons as shall pay the same.
